A couple of solid hits to kill a basic Orc sounds about right to me.
Depends on how many orcs make up an encounter

Just because the math is relatively flat, it doesn't necessarily start at or near zero at 1st level. There might be 20 levels, and the typical mods (counting ability scores, feats, magic items, etc.) might run from around +4 to +14. That's still very flat compared to 3E/4E, but no particular reason it has to go from +0 to +10 to do that. Having the scale a bit off of zero allows for several disparate things to stack, with characters missing those things being a little on the weak side by comparison, but still in the "plus" territory. It really doesn't make much difference anywhere else, but does allow a handful of stacking +1 mods relatively early in the levels, without messing up the entire range.
Flat math , so no BAB of any kind just STR mod and ... maybe weapon bonus to hit like they had in 4th?
I think characters will be presented in two steps. First we'll say Half-Orc Fighter and then follow up with Noble Gladiator. Sort of like how movie titles are presented in two steps. Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan.
That's what I've done, so the only way for your attack to go up is Ability Score increases, and Inherent Bonus increases.
It works well, the 17th level party can encounter those drow monks they fought at 10th level without it being a total wipe. Also feels less artificial.
And magic items. Which with this system would eliminate their dependence. A +1 sword is just a nice find rather than a dependent bonus.
