In addition to evaluating tools on general grounds such as frequency of need, reliability, and simplicity of use, I’ve included some notes on non-standard uses of tools that may influence your decision.

I'd be a tool to answer such a vague question, so here goes :)

I voted for the hammer. There isn't a problem that can't be fixed by hammer bashing. It will either fix the problem or obviate the need for further remedies.

What's with the bias against can-openers. It opens the can perfectly, and then you have the nice serrated sharp can lid to use as a weapon.
 

Gerbers, not leathermens, are the best tools. A fine distinction to make, I agree, but give me a Gerber any day.

That having been said, since I realize that a multitool is several of the options in one (not forgetting hammer), I had to go with the crowbar. Gordon Freeman all the way.
