What Property Do You Still Want to See Get a TTRPG Adaptation

For a while I’ve been contemplating making a RPG adaptation of the XCOM franchise. Basically, a modern to near-future sci fi urban warfare based RPG

The battle mechanic could almost be ported directly from the xcom2 game using a roll-under d100 system, though converting to d20 would also be easy. That game would have a significant base management aspect, as well as a technology race against the escalating alien invasion/occupation, and possibly a troupe-like play style where players have multiple characters or take from a communal pool of characters to change specialties or deal with injuries (or KIAs).

Alternatively, Chimera Squad sequel offers a city-bound mini-setting with potential of aliens as PCs.

For a few years I have picking away at a Savage Worlds powered X-Com like, except the aliens are time traveling nazi dinosaurs.

Well yeah, i mean that is obvious…

… wait, what?
The fascist sauroid empire knows the Kat comet is coming and has hatched a plan to create a temporal wormhole so they can escape to a future and rule once again. Of course, it turns out that world is our near future, with climate change having caused temperatures and CO2 levels to rise to be perfect for the sauroids.

Arcane and the wider League of Legends universe are covered by the free Runarcana TTRPG.

Malazan originally stemmed from an AD&D 2E campaign that started in 1982, but they ended up hating the rules and switched to GURPS around 1987, so there's certainly scope for an adaptation back to TTRPGs. I believe they've come close 2-3 times to signing a deal, but each time they've backed out. I think Erikson in particular doesn't want to give up control of the setting or set things canonically in stone before they have to (also the reason why there's no canon world map or even a map of Stratem or western Seven Cities yet). I get the impression SE has odd views on what the property is worth and how to exploit it; a colleague of mine went to negotiate the CRPG licence for Malazan and outlined a campaign involving multiple characters, species etc with a roleplaying focus and SE instead asked them to make first-person shooter as he liked those, despite that not being the focus of the company and obviously a very poor fit for the setting (remember the Wheel of Time first-person shooter? It didn't set the world on fire).

Prince of Nothing / Second Apocalypse also started as an AD&D campaign setting for 2E in 1986, there's even maps of OG Earwa floating around mentioning gnome and elven kingdoms. But then it rapidly changed and got darker. I think the sheer darkness and philosophical nihilism of the setting and the extreme commercial failure of the last few novels makes any hope for TTRPG improbable in the extreme.

In a different timeline, we'd have gotten the movie version from the Golden Company team, it would have done well and we'd be having a very different conversation, but alas that did not come to pass.

I know the 5e Fan adaption to Arcane or LoL...but I'd like a tailormade RPG system for it. And the official weight behind it.

Yeah, it's a bit sad for us gamers if that's the case with Erikson/Esslemont. I mean they are both gamers themselves, so they should be able to tell that there is not much money in it. And the whole "doesn't want to give up control" ... I don't buy it. He could be very specific with what he allows and he could also set a "not after this date in-world" or some such. Sure, a RPG company might then say "no, thanks", but that's the risk he takes. I would not be interested in a cRPG at all, I don't play them.

You know, the funny thing is, I think Scott would be extremely open to a RPG. I talked to him about it. Granted, it was several years ago. But he liked the idea and he even told me he'd want his brother involved in the project. It didn't pan out back then (mainly because Scott didn't have the time). But if he is still in the same head-space regarding RPGs, a company might find it pretty easy to negotiate something. I mean Scott was a big roleplayer himself, as the story goes...and they played in Earwa.
Granted, the setting is pretty bleak and dark. But it is very rich. And you could easily set the RPG before the novels, where it is still much more open (and a rpg book could lay out how to go from light grey to super extreme black, easily, so there could be nuance).

A Carpenter Brut RPG. I'm not sure how you'd even do this, but I do know that I need it in my life.
I could certainly see #BloodMachines being a thing.

As you can see, I prioritize setting in my choices.
Which is all but a requirement if you expect to use original characters.

Battlefield Earth (yes, it's L. Ron Hubbard, yes, he's connected to Scientology, but heck, I really like this novel and think it's a great book)
I suspect this would actually be an easy license to get, but anyone involved would be inseparably tied to #Scientology and their agenda.

Mass Effect would be the obvious choice for me.

It's kind of bizarre that it doesn't have a TTRPG already,
Of all the licenses that hasn't happened yet this is easily one of the most inexplicable.

1985 would be my first choice (more lore, in some ways more out there)...but the new one (2011?) would also be fine as well.

Either or.
...both like they did with #Voltron?

The Matrix.

Definitely needs its own thing, done by the right people. The system would need to capture all the elements: martial arts, science fiction, the supernatural, shoot-outs, melodrama - all of it.
One of my white whales.

I'd be cool if someone could get the license to both of these, and present them as a shared universe...

Well I'd certainly be interested in one.

Richard Garriott's Ultima series.
Another license I'm surprised hasn't happened by now.
