Sure, but not everyone wants to type in the die rolling syntax every time, or set up their characters extensively to cover all of their possible die rolling contingencies, or give up the tactile sensation of picking up a handful of dice for a fireball, sneak attack, or multi-die critical hit. And I'm not going to take that last one away from them by making them use the die roller on the VTT.
The first two bits are absolutely built into the VTT to be easy. You almost never have to type the syntax on Roll20, for example. There's a tool on the left toolbar where you can just select the number and type of dice to roll. Almost everything on the character sheet will also roll to chat.

But sure, the tactile piece is nothing a VTT can do, though there is the 3D dice option which I don't prefer because it's faster without that feature turned on and I value quick resolution. The group saves a lot of time in my experience by using the VTT dice rolling. It really adds up round after round compared to rolling physical dice.

Used to roll on my lappy and players used actual bones. Though, face to face is dead and we use VTT so its all in the open. No need to watch like a hawk.

As a player, I want my DM to see my dice rolls. I actually want them to see the number I rolled and acknowledge it. Otherwise, I get the feeling they've already decided the outcome before I throw the dice.

I've had some....colorful DMs in my time.
I kinda get it, cause as a DM I want my players to see the results of my rolls. Or at least to be able to see them if they want to.

I enjoy the 3D dice feature. It is a tiny bit slower, but you get that shared experience of watching the 20 or the 1 come up in a way just seeing the results in the chat doesn't quite match, somehow.
