Me, I despise the RAW previous to 3.0...bizarre, contradictory, and 9 times out of 10 in serious need of houseruling in one form or another. What kind of save is that, again? Oy.

That said (before Akrasia or Chainsaw Mage decide to lambast):

3/3.5e setting from WotC, along with most of the WotC-produced books, just don't get my motor working. There's some incredible 3rd party stuff out there, but for in-house produced campaign material, nothing WotC's done matches the venerable Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, settings like Ravenloft or Planescape or Dark Sun, or the old Dragon Magazine. The sad thing is, many of the very best settings and adventures came out in a time where TSR was being used as a tax shelter, thus producing all the really, really good stuff at a loss.

Jim my friend, I have no intention to lambast you. When I person says, as you did, that they personally found the previous editions to be contradictory or in need of houseruling, I say to myself, "That's an honest, informed opinion." What irritates me is other folks posting two word messages that say "3.5 baby!" with no frickin' reason or context for it.

Game in peace. ;)

Alrighty, then!

But seriously - that's exactly how I feel. As far as 3/3.5 goes...well, it ain't a perfect rules set, but it's leaps and bounds better for me than the older stuff. Emphasis on the 'for me'.

Now I'm going back to the thread where they're speculating about WotC converting Expedition to the Barrier Peaks to 3.5. Robots and blaster rifles and accidents with 'em! gimme! :)

i play a combination of all three, mostly 1e. with only minor tweaking all pre-3e systems are interchangeable. also the hackmaster system is pretty much the same thing with alot of comedy thrown in, so if you want to use those as supplements they work just fine.
i wont convert to 3e because i fear change......actually i just dont want to have to buy a whole new bunch of books and theres no demand for it from my players.

I used the Rules Cyclopedia to power up my last game and I will surely use it again to run my next D&D campaign. Also, I was invited to play in a AD&D2 table. I would play, if I only had time to spare...

We're currently playing 3.5, but me and several of my players have all expressed a desire to dust off our 1974 boxed sets and have an all weekend long marathon (wives permitting, of course) of OD&D. It's been 25 years since any of us have played with the three book set but those were some of the funnest games we ever played.

Currently running a nearly year long 1e game, and playing in a 1e game which has run 3+ years.

Most of the second half of last year, I ran Moldvay/Cook Basic/Expert.

I primarily play OOP games, many of which aren't D&D - but I will always have a special place in my heart for the Basic D&D rules (1977 printing). That and Advanced Fighting Fantasy are probably my two favorite fantasy RPGs of all time.
