Absolutely no.

Having read the info out there and listened to the podcasts from the developers t... I've finally decided enough is enough.

I've been playing since the early 80's and have become unbelievably sickened by the direction that D&D has taken.

Leveling is done in a nonce. Everyone becomes a mind reading superhero with feats like sense motive, and Everything has been reduced to a roll that doesn't even require role playing.

And worse yet, the game has stopped feeling or looking like the game I used to enjoy.

This is no longer D&D... and I'm not buying any more of it.

First post?

There is something else I am not buying :uhoh:

You know it's funny. The votes show MORE people plan on buying it than did the last time this poll was taken, and more have gone from maybe to yes for sure. But the individual posts about not buying it have increased.

Which is telling I think.

The more I see of 4th edition, the more I am pissed with what's being done with it. It's frustrating to see the game so radically changed (both in terms of flavor and crunch), especially when those changes seem ill-conceived (to put it nicely).

Perhaps that the people who don't like the direction 4E is going feel compelled to verbalize it, just so that it is known that 4E is in fact, not going to be blindly accepted by everyopne just because it has a D&D logo on it?

Something like that, I'd guess.

I'm generally happy with the bits I've heard (barring races). They may screw it up, yet, but I've got the three primary books pre-ordered.

Whether I decide it's worth playing or not, I'll enjoy the read. Plus, I'm the early adopter in my group. If 4E sucks, I'll be the only one who buys it.

My opinion really hasn't changed that much since that poll.

I still haven't seen anything that makes me say "WOW, I want to play that!".

What I have seen is more a mixed bag of things that might be interesting (PoL) and other things that make me scratch my head and wonder what the heck the designers are attempting to accomplish (DDI).

Due to the lack of a "wow" factor connected to the game, its generating very little buzz with gamers in my area.

Welcome to the boards!

Seriously, you registered to post that?

Actually, yes I did. (And to the person posting that they don't believe that at post one I'm posting here... yes... I am. Just because I tend to post mostly over on the Necromancer game boards does not mean I'm a newb in posting about games)

I feel that strongly about this issue...strongly enough that I am perfectly wiling to go through the hassle of registering just to post my opinion on this issue.

I've been watching the teasers, listening to the podcasts... and let me tell you... 4e to me looks like a total Charley Foxtrot.

The whole damn thing looks like they're trying to turn it into something it isn't.

The game and the features they've been talking about sound like they're trying to make it fit in more with console games.

Character in this edition sound like they're getting defined by their abilities... and not by how the players play them and make the character's personalty stand out.

Characters essentally have built in super LIMIT BREAK style attacks that fit in more with Final Fantasy than Dungeons and Dragons. The special powers and abilities that even fighter type characters get baffle even the believability suspension that exists in a fantasy setting. Everyone gets healing abilities now... that's utter and complete bullsh*t.

This is no longer D&D in my opinion and I'm not supporting the destruction of the game system I loved just because some chair jockeys at Hasbro want to make a fast buck hoping that the loyal fans of the game will shell out yet more cash to add yet more splat factors to the game.

I'm going to wait and see what it's like; given that I work in a book store; I'll have an easy opportunity to look at the books before I buy them.

As for my current opinion, my feelings are mixed. A lot of the design philosophy - enhanced multiclassing, scaling racial abilities, and keeping all classes interesting at all levels - really appeal to me. However, the more I've seen of what they're actually doing, the more pessimistic I've become. Hopefully the final product will be good, but at this point I'm not holding my breath.
