My gaming group is really excited about the new ruleset. We have been suffering edition fatigue for a year or two (long before I ever heard the term). The silly naming conventions we could do without. I won't say Golden Wyvern Adepts and Purple Monkey Dishwashers will ruin the game for us, but they will probably be the only unwelcome element for us.

I'm on the fence, but not for any mechanical or flavor reason; my gaming group has been scattering to the four winds with each college graduation, and I'm not sure I'm going to have anyone to game with by the time 4E is released. That'd make buying the books maybe a wee bit irresponsible.

I'd expect this forum to be somewhat more biased toward people who will buy it compared to immediately after the announcement.

Sight unseen for the Player's Handbook.

I like reading these things.

I will get the Monster Manual and the Dungeon Master's Guide only if I think they're worth it for running a game. You could run 3e without these pretty easily.

Likely sight-unseen for the PHB, barring some horrendous twist of fate. Potentially sight-unseen for the DMG and MM. Beyond that, it's a big maybe. I've got no problem stocking the core rules for myself so that I can get a game up with folks, but they'll really have to wow me to get me to invest the way I did in 3.x.

I have it on pre-order from Amazon. Even if I end up hating it, I will have to form an informed opinion of the books and rules.

I will likely end up playing 3.8, with some of the better 4E mechanics (1/2 level bonus to everything, revised skill list, etc) mixed with 3.x classes and races and older-edition flavor.

"I probably will not buy it, but might eventually" last time, and this time as well. I have yet to be swayed strongly in the pro direction and have lots left to do with 3E before I move on. I'm not a person who can really split his time or attention between two editions simultaneously -- I'm a one game at a time guy, I guess.
