September 17, the day the new book comes out, will be the last day of our current campaign. One week later we will have a Session Zero for the new campaign. October 1 we will begin playing the new campaign.
Right now I'm still on maybe as a DM. My one group that is just about to finish up a campaign has agreed to keep using the 2014 rules for our next campaign while we wait for all three 2024 core rulebooks to be released to see if we actually want to switch over.
For the group I'm playing in, the DM has decided that the next campaign will be a 2024 PHB only game to try things out. I'm happy to try that as a player, but I'm not going to DM 2024 until I've had a chance to read through the whole thing and decide if that's actually what I want.
Right now I'm kinda leaning towards a mash-up of both 2014 and 2024 but I'm not sure which will be the base with the other bits bolted on, if you know what I mean. I won't know till sometime next year.
Given that "maybe" wasn't one of the options in the poll, I didn't vote.
I chose option 3, but I'm more between 1 and 3. I originally intended to switch as soon as the PHB was available, but it's become clear that a larger portion of the basic rules are now in the DMG than was the case in 2014, so I will be waiting for the DMG before beginning anything new. We won't be holding off for the MM, though.
I'm curious about ENWorlders who are currently not interested in purchasing 2024 D&D, and your reasons for that. We previously had a poll with 172 respondents (as of today, 8-11-2024) which revealed that about half of the survey-responding ENWorlders plan to purchase 2024 D&D (48.2%), about...
I don't expect either to change rulesets immediately.
The one I run is not fixed on one system. They seem to like to change it up between campaigns, so there's a significant chance they'll pick some other system, and 5e2024 may only be when we get around to it.
The group I play in is more fixed on D&D as a ruleset we all know - maybe they'll switch to the new rules when we change campaigns?
Like others it will be a mix. I'm running in a game and playing in another that will switch over immediately. I run another game with more casual players and we haven't really discussed it yet, I'm probably going to play a bit more with the experienced groups before switching.
