Point taken. Perhaps this subject brings out the worst in both sides because it is a fairly political one, and easily personalized to boot.
Yeah.

Besides, I am the LAST person to accuse anyone of being a pervert. I mean, just looking at my hard drive... not going there.

Chainmail Bikini threads are political. Edition Wars are religious.
Then what are threads that discuss Furries in D&D? Racism? :heh:

I'm starting to think this thread needs to be moved to the Art Gallery forum and retitled "D&D Porn."
No way man. If we're talking about D&D porn, I say we start posting chainmail tassels. ;)

I really can't believe sports-bra-and-thong Lidda from Dragon #359 hasn't been posted yet!

That's just ludicrous. The rules assume that every person who's attacking is aiming for every vital area. This is why we don't have called shots in 3e. This is why we have Attacks of Opportunity - because you're leaving yourself open.

If you can leave yourself open and get attacked for it, it flabbergasts me you'd actually say "Well they just FORGET to stab your stomach."

D&D IS ludicrous. It's got DRAGONS in it for chrissakes! And don't blame me that the 3rd edition combat rules don't support fantasy conventions like the chainmail bikini. After all, even WOTC now says those combat rules (with their AoO's) were awful. Of course, some say they have an ulterior motive for that new criticism...

And people's style of play could be cyberpunk with magic, meaning magical items implanted in their face, and losing their soul due to over-saturation of magic, and tricked out with all kinds of grafts. But the majority of D&D art doesn't support that style. So why should high fantasy naked elf babes in metal bondage qualifying as armor count?

Because its more common, and sells more books. I don't even play that way (my game world is more like Terry Gilliam's "Jabberwocky", or "Army of Darkness"). I just think we need to realize that everything in fantasy RPGs is unrealistic, not just the armor. My point is we can't criticize bondage-style armor as unrealistic, and then also want equally unrealistic pre-modern kingdoms with gender equality, no slavery, and health care for all. Now, we can criticize the bondage armor as sexist, and make it clear that we want a non-sexist fantasy game. The problem is, D&D is mainly played by sexist males. I HATE that fact, because it makes it more difficult for me to get female players for a game I love.

My games tend to be pretty grounded so I do tend to view fantasy images I want to use in my games with an eye towards "practicality". I tend to draw inspiration from outside what WotC produces and I tell you if they're not in head-to-toe full plate armor, it can be tough to find "practically" dressed warrior-women images...
Wow! Where did you find that pic, if I may ask?

Has anyone here ever played a character in a chainmail bikini or been in a group that included one? If so, how was AC handled?

I'm also curious: how many of the people reading and commenting are women?

Don, I've asked you to not post in this thread again. I'd appreciate it if you'd comply with that request.

I'm just quoting this to be sure it isn't missed.
