Would it make sense that the Paladin by an Template to add on the other base classes?

The last Pally discussion ressurected an idea i had a while age.
Wouldn`t it be more fitting that the Paladin be an add on Template for the other base classes.
, is there any reason the arcane classes couldn`t be also holy champions, or the rogue , bard

Example given
Wizard/sorcerer Paladin : The called wizard who fights with spells not with an blade.
the Bard paladin: who rises spirit, hope again in the darkest hour, in the lands brought down under the heels of darkness
the rogue paladin: a resistence paladin who couldn`t fight in the open with weapons, but in the shadows does his best to fight against evil, rescuing what he could.
Ranger/woodsman Paladin: who fights in the wilderness, maybe as an guerilla fighter, or as an scout/reconaissance, or who is the champion in the wilderness.

Well, since the template would presumably have a level adjustment, it's hard to say what the difference would be between the template and +x levels of paladin.

It's certainly an interesting idea. Applying the half-celestial or paragon templates might have a similar effect.

Personally, I like the idea of breaking down the notion of templates and "monster HD" into levels when possible...

You might as well just create some variant base classes, since that's effectively what would have to happen to balance out the extra powers anyway. I think it would cause fewer headaches.

Possible

Actually in the House Rules forum a member named (?) Jens did this a while back with regards to the Barbarian class. I think it was called the Wild Template or Barbaric Template, Im not sure, but it effectively gave you a barbarian template to add to any class.

So you could have barbarian druids, barbarian sorcerors, etc. It was ECL +0 although we argued for a while about how to restrict proficiencies and skills (the balancing part of giving a character rage for free). I think other barbarian abilities were given as feats that any "barbaric" character could take, it was pretty nice.
