D&D 5E You find a magical _____, it does _____

A cardboard hat and a brass ladle

These are the ceremonial regalia of the Grandmaster of the Guilds of Cooks and Bakers. A player with the Guild Artisan background will recognise them for what they are and be duty bound to try to return them to their rightful owner. A player with the Charlatan background may use them to impersonate the real grandmaster. Anyone else can do what they like with them but note that the hat is not waterproof and if worn in the rain will collapse into a soggy pulp, whilst the ladle is made of an inferior kind of brass that melts if immersed in a hot liquid.

Waglif's Woobie of Watchfulness...

This rather creepy-looking child's doll with large staring eyes is actually enchanted with a minor but permanent version of the Alarm spell so that whenever anyone that the doll can see approaches within 15 feet, it will begin saying "Mama! Mama!" repeatedly until it has detected no movement within it's arc of vision and 15-ft. range for at least two minutes...

A 3-inch diameter round silver base set with a large red button of semiprecious stone...

Embossed with sylvan arabesques, this 3-inch diameter round silver base set appears to be a miniature version of a cake plateau used by royalty. However, a red jasper button on the side stands out temptingly, and in moonlight anyone within 5 feet of the silver base set hears high-pitched whispering Sylvan voices saying "press the button! the button, press it!" Anyone pressing the button summons a dark-eyed leprechaun who steps out of the shadows and poses a riddling game, with the following stakes: the winner must serve as the other's personal baker for 1 lunar month.

Next item: A cube with tiny animals wandering on each face that change when they cross onto a different face.

When you place a glass or mug on the base and press the botton it will heat or chill the drink inside to the perfect temprature to drink it.

A tiny silver anvil

A 3-inch diameter round silver base set with a large red button of semiprecious stone...

There is a 10% chance that pushing this button will destroy the known multiverse. However, there is a 90% chance that something wondrous and amazing will happen instead. Only the DM knows what that something is.

Go on, push it.

You know you want to.

Next item: Whoa, double-sniped. Ignore me. :)

A tiny silver anvil

With a mere action this tiny anvil will teleport above a target within 30 feet before falling. The target must make a dexterity saving throw against a DC of 13 (if able). The target takes 2d10 bludgeoning damage, or half as much on a successful save.

A Rubber Sword (Ribbed)
The wavy lines of this soft toy sword are designed so strikes along the blade won't continue down to the hands. It's enchanted to rebound back quickly, deflecting blows and striking opponents with the same force they brought to bear on the toy. The sword quivers violently for a while after being struck, gently massaging the palms.

A marble of solid ice that doesn't melt

This marble is ice-cold and pulses with a faint magical light. When placed in the body of a snowman, the marble is destroyed and the snowman comes to life. For 10 days, the snowman obeys the commands of its summoner, having the statistics of a scarecrow. After the 10 days have elapsed, the snowman melts, leaving nothing behind.

Next item (Quickleaf's, since he got skipped): A cube with tiny animals wandering on each face that change when they cross onto a different face

A cube with tiny animals wandering on each face that change when they cross onto a different face

This item is one of a pair - they are scrying devices, each showing what the other cube "sees". Unfortunately the other cube is currently wedged in a fence at the animal garden of King Karlak the Cruel. Should the other cube be retrieved, they would make a good spying device due to their hard to notice nature.

A chain made of lead, 2 feet long

The Chain of Argument was made by Bokdur Arambicus as a device for trapping logical syllogisms. He hoped that with a sufficient number of links in a chain of reasoning, be would arrive at the ultimate truth about everything. As a precaution, though, he made it out of lead so that sceptics who disbelieved him could be beaten into submission by the weight of his argument. He was the ultimate pragmatic philosopher*.

*Bokdur's vigorous but controversial method of teaching his students was summed up in his motto "per nares plumbum" - lead by the nose.
