This week’s article looks at RPG crowdfunding projects that end between July 26 through August 11. Lots of original systems, 5e, Shadow of the Demon Lord, and more available in this sampling of what’s campaigning right now.
This week’s article looks at RPG crowdfunding projects ending between July 14 and 28. As with every week, this is a sampling from several crowdfunding sites. I cover several RPGs (core and sourcebooks), a Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 Edition sourcebook, and a convention.
When Pinnacle Entertainment and Paizo announced Pathfinder for Savage Worlds (PF/SW), it was that rare perfect crossover, akin to Marvel and DC Comics’ co-publication of the Amalgam Comics promotional stunt. Golarion by way of Savage Worlds Adventure Edition gives a fantastic setting to a great RPG engine. Not to say the Pathfinder editions aren’t great engines or that Savage Worlds does not...
Alligator Alley Entertainment (AAE) is adapting Gregory A. Wilson’s fantasy series the Gray Assassin Trilogy to tabletop Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition. Rich Lescouflair of AAE agreed to talk to me about the Kickstarter, the source material, what they’re adding with 5e, and how life and Alligator Alley are after the passing of Brian Dalrymple.
This week’s article includes RPG crowdfunding projects ending between July 8th through the 23rd. This sampling of what’s available is pulled from campaigns on Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, and GameFound.
One of the challenges for RPG publishers involves obtaining exciting artwork while sticking to a strict budget. For many, the solution is stock art. Stock art is non-exclusive art, a concept I define in more detail as part of another article (here). I’ve talked about stock art, RPG art in general, and how to customize stock art so it isn’t exactly the same as the original (here, here, and...
As part of their 10th anniversary celebration, Monte Cook Games announced a gift to the RPG community: The Cypher System Open License (CSOL) and the Cypher System Reference Document (CSRD). Announced during the week of Origins Game Fair 2022, these documents allow third parties to create their own Cypher System products. As part of the showcase, three early licensees and their Cypher System...
This week’s article looks at projects ending between June 30 and July 19. RPG magazines, zines, pamphlets, sourcebooks, core rulebooks, and boxed sets, this week shows a nice sampling of production types that are crowdfunding at Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, and BackerKit.
Free RPG Day (North America) is coming this Saturday, June 25, 2022! Friendly Local Game Stores (FLGS) across the United States and Canada are offering RPG products including quickstarts, one-shots, samples, miniatures, dice, and more. It’s a great time to get out to your FLGS to play an tabletop roleplaying game. Before you make the trek to your store, here’s a quick guide to the available...
This week, I look at RPG crowdfunding projects that end between July 4 and August 14. Last week, I shared several non-Kickstarter RPG campaigns, however, that seemed to exhaust the field for the moment, resulting in this article being all Kickstarter.
This week’s list includes projects that end between June 16 through July 12. Of this sampling, four of the RPG crowdfunding campaigns aren’t on Kickstarter. For those that faithfully follow this list, that’s quite a gain from the normal zero to two I’ve shared in the past. Is this a sign that crowdfunding really is diversifying? Only time will tell, but it does change the digital landscape for...
This week, I’m looking at RPG crowdfunding projects that end between June 20 and 30. This sampling gives us board games brought to RPGs, other projects converted to 5e, a pair of gangster projects, and more. As always, this is a taste of what is out there, and I encourage you to explore all of the gaming options crowdfunding right now.
This week, I look at RPG crowdfunding campaigns that end between June 6th to the 23rd, including two I couldn’t cover last week.
OSR
Launching on May 31st via Kickstarter, 9th Level Games brings Return to Dark Tower RPG - Roleplay in the Four Kingdoms. I’m a fan of this Polymorph system, it’s innovative and simple, yet detailed enough to spark great games. In the run up to their campaign, Powered by Polymorph and Return to Dark Tower designer Chris O’Neill agreed to answer my questions about the RPG, the campaign...
PJ Coffey, co-host of Morrus’ Unofficial Tabletop RPG Talk, author on Level Up: Advanced 5th Edition, and publisher of Homebrew and Hacking, is on Kickstarter with more content for 5e and A5e. As he expands his creative catalog, he agreed to talk about how he’s Crafting Personalised Feats.
This week, I’m drowning in RPGs to report on. The first six on this list have raised six-figures each. As of this writing, there are ten live RPG campaigns at seven or six figures. That’s a nice number. As always, this list is just a sampling of what’s available through crowdfunding right now. Normally, I like to share projects from FASA, Richard A. Knaak, Nerdburger Games, Bloat Games, Philip...
