[4e] From the Ruins (closed) - OOC

Lino would never (and if she knew i had a tight black leather suit I would be in trouble lol) burn her favorite follower :]

Been going over some things and maybe I was to onesided like the rest of the world Lino is both the giver and the taker and uses the same thing (the flame) to do both and the arcana can be used the same way to give(heal) or to take(fireball) So there are three main fractions, possible in all the religions the good the bad and the middleman. I want to play the good but Lino thinks there should only be the middle? <--- up to DM

So I take her powers and use them only to defend/heal but I was taught the middle ground(i.e. armor/shields/mace) Now i am a group of one that sees only the good in the flame and if it does wrong it is not the flames fought but the wielders

HM

Your are absolutely right, HM. Lino encompasses all of the aspects of his domains, not just good or evil. There are certainly people who follow Lino in a purely evil way (a small arson cult comes to mind) as well as those that believe in the good (a sect that provides cooked food and warm flophouses for beggars). Lino would certainly accept a cleric who was using the powers he granted to defend people and better the world, but he wouldn't look down on one who used the fire to burn some evil from the world, either. In the end (at least on Tantas), the gods are not so concerned with whether a follower's actions are good or evil as they are with how those actions show reverence to them. If you believe that Lino does not want you to harm another living being, you can certainly make that a core part of your worship. If you believe that Lino wants you to use his gifts to better the world--even if that betterment involves a little violence--that works to. If you believe that Lino wants you to burn every plank, brick and stone in the city of Tyral, you can even follow that path.

I do think that you can make a very compelling character without having twenty different ways to kill something, and it will be very interesting to see how such a character plays out in this system. Also know that not every encounter is going to be combat, so you don't have to worry about never contributing to the group (not that you can't contribute in combat without dealing damage). Plenty of the key points of the game are going to be social encounters, traps and puzzles, and lots of other situations besides simply knocking some skulls. However, there will be plenty of skull-bashing, so you may want to have some kind of combat back up (for instance, how does Norian feel about the undead or demons?).

Okay guys, recruitment is now closed. This is now the OOC thread for the game.

eblue, Vertexx and Voda: go ahead and work out some initial meeting stuff here before the game proper starts up (most likely tomorrow). This way we can get everyone rolling at mostly the same time.

WD, HM, and Voda: I need someone important from your past or present--a mentor, family member, etc.

This little number doesn't seem to be wanted so I'll have it.

I've posted my sheet on RG and adjusted it to match the pdf. BUT I think there is an error on the pdf - the Will defence adds up to 15 but the total is given as 14!

Mondel's Grand father, was an important cleric of the family and the founder of the clan itself. He trained Mondel in the art of war and all the other aspects of a dwarf's life in this world, since his son, Mondel's father, died in the hands of the enemies. Mondel has always an anecdote and phrases from his grandfather, and he devotes his prayers to him and the primordials. His most usual battle cry is "Fer the beard of the Old Father!"

It looks like in addition to the fireball of a warlock, there is also a crazy fire wizard and a demented fire cleric. So since the chasm is a virtual conduit to whatever type of fiery power, maybe it would work after all to have everyone meet there? The avenger has divine ties too :) and dare I say earthen Warden? All the characters have reason to be there.

Thanks for picking that up. I've adjusted it on my sheet here.

That's a definate possibility. Hrm...Cole is planning on heading into town, right? Perhaps one last discussion at the chasm before heading in? I will definitely think about it.

Sathi is traveling towards the city in search of injustice and damage in the world. She spots the firey chasm and can feel the spirits (angered or disturbed, in whatever fashion) and begins to move toward it. It can be there she meets the warlock and anyone else that happens to be there.

I think we can start the progression in the firey chasm and then head towards the city. I guess its mostly up to the DM.

This is the new idea. Everyone except Grayven is heading towards the city, and the Cinder clan's living and work areas are on one of the main roads into Tyral. WD, Grayven will be sent on an errand for the College to collect some crystals that form near the chasm. Everyone else will be on the road into Tyral and converge at the Cinder clan compound. There is a heavily used crossroads there, one of the reasons the clan didn't build directly beside the chasm (however the feature is still within about 500 yards).
