[4e] From the Ruins (closed) - OOC

check

I am doing background/rebuild but I type slow and will post in RG tonight.

I will not be taking armor (i will take a light shield) but will be in total defense alot lol.

So my AC Should Be 16 = 10 (base) + 1 (cloth) + 2 (light shield) + 1 (amulet of protection) + 2 (dex)

And 18 with total def and the defensive healing word feat I am taking

Is all this ok??

You've got your AC off just a bit. The "base" is 10 + 1/2 level, so 11. Cloth doesn't actually provide an armor bonus at all, but you do have a +1 enhancement bonus inherent to you, so 12. The light shield only gives a +1 bonus to AC and Reflex, so 13. The inherent bonus to defenses (neck slot item, or "amulet of protection +1) doesn't affect AC, only Fort, Ref and Will, so still 13. You would get to add your Dex mod at +2, so 15. This is a low AC, but like you said there are other targets and a couple of defenders to try and keep melee enemies off of you. Still, artillery could be a major issue. Total defense would add 2 to your defenses, but it takes a standard action to activate. Even without damaging powers, you can usually find something better to do with your standard. Also, Defensive Healing Word only gives the bonus to the target of your Healing Word and only against one attack. If you're using your Healing Word on yourself enough for the feat to significantly improve your defenses, you're pulling that healing away from the group as a whole (not that this can't be done, you guys do have two leaders).

If you're dead set against chain, I can understand that. I would still recommend it, or at least leather or hide to bring you a little higher. Since you have a shield already, you may want to bump it up to a heavy shield to give you another small boost.

Comparison:

If you get leather and up the shield, it will raise your AC to 18.
If you get a heavy shield and go with Hide, it goes to 19.
If you get a heavy shield and chain, you'll be up to 20.

Compare this to Sathi, the other leader, who also has an 18 AC (without a shield). As you level, this disparity is going to get bigger. Your Dex won't be improving much (likely only +2 all the way through epic) and light armor almost demands that your Dex or Int be improving faster (this is why light masterwork armors [which you all will get starting at level 13] only go up by +1 armor bonus at a time and heavy masterwork armors go up by +3 armor bonus at a time.

So at level 13:

If you stick with what you have you'll have an 18 AC (+2 from enhancements at 8 and 13, +1 from masterwork armor)
If you move up to leather and heavy shield you'll have a 21 AC
If you go all the way to chain you'll have a 25 AC.

Sathi should have a 23 AC at level 13 without picking up a shield.

So with that in mind, how do you want to do it?

So the enhancement bonus is only for armor worn, weapons, implements, and the neck slot??

And about powers I am right that healing word is a twice per encounter?

so me and one other every combat?

Sorry I am not well versed in the rules I think I wish to build a character I wish to play and try my best to keep him out of trouble lol thats why skill focus diplomacy.

I have posted this in the RG working on last concept for build: Sorry I'm slow. I'm old lol.

[sblock=Background]Nearly a 1,000 years after what some have come to call the End of the Great Wars or Old Wars(since new smaller ones have been felt throughout the lands of Tantas), humans seem to have forgotten the past. A hundred generations have gone by and the truth has become story and story has become myth and myth is but a tale to scare children or give a goodwife something to gossip about.

But in all those years in the Frumo School of Magic a small temple of Lino still knows the truth. Histories have been recorded and handed down of the time know by the elves as The Cleanseing, and Turba's Abandoment by the dwarves. These races live and learn from the past but humans look forward ever forward, maybe do to the little time they have they wish to see it coming and plan and plot out every minute of every day.

Norian was just such a person but recent events in his life have changed his views of the world, the races on it, the gods that rule above it, and even the forces surronding it. He has found a new path and a new way he believes to better honor the teachings of his father and Lino his beloved god who has blessed his choice and watches as his little subject goes to try and bring honor to the Candle Keeper.

Full of questions that could not be answered at the Frumo School, Norian has been allowed to journey to Tyral. To the Temple of All, a chance to fully understand Lino and all the gods and thier reasons behind that great day of change. He will also get a chance to visit his father's brother and family, people he has not seen since he was near five and left when his father took up caretaking of the Temple of Lino in the Frumo School of Magic.

As he draws near his weary feet get the better of him so Norian plans a quick stop at the crossroads near Tyral. Maybe a chance to sit and hear any rumors of what his new life might be like. [/sblock]

Yes, enhancement is for those items. Healing Word is twice per encounter.

I understand you want to be as peaceful as possible, and with DP and a cleric you can do that. That doesn't mean everyone else is going to play nice, though. ;)

Norian sounds like he's going to be an interesting character, both to play and to run for. There will be plenty of opprtunities to put that Diplomacy to use, but it's not going to get the group out of every situation (actually, with skill challenges, just Diplomacy isn't going to be the end all be all of negotiations either. It will be important, though). You shouldn't try to be useless in combat so you can be great out of combat. A cleric's job in a combat encounters is to make the rest of the party better, and with the non-damaging powers you can be especially good at that. If you intentionally lower your in combat ability, you lower the potential boost you can give as well as force the rest of the group to use resources to protect you and pick up the slack. Think less about avoiding combat and more about what kind of things you can do to help once it's started.

Background sounds good, except it's only been 100 years. ;) That doesn't affect the telling much, though, as humans have all but forgotten (or simply don't care). I like this.

I was already thinking that Norian was the guy you wanted in a fight he just doesn't want to be fighting himself but all the protects/boosts/heals makes him the linch pin to end anything hostile quick and if it ends bad he will be able to do some patching up, I like all round helpful characters.

Yes rp will be a challenge but mainly do to his race I think. I'm the minority in this party. Also his no voilent way to try and settle things may rub some people the wrong way. It will be fun (my main goal all along).

Very nice. Can't wait to see the new and improved build.

Okay, some final notes.

I'll be doing all the rolling (if this is a deal breaker for anyone, let me know--I might allow some Invisible Castle rolls). I'll be posting the rolls and results in spoiler boxes.

I want a description of what the characters are doing, saying, etc. up top on the posts. Include the action (power, skill check attempt) in a spoiler box at the bottom of the post.

For skill challenges: I will let you know when the party has entered a skill challenge; for social skills (Bluff, Diplomacy, Insight, Intimidate) give me what the character is saying, doing or looking for--bonuses will apply for good RP or creative thinking; for other skills, give me the action and intended result ("Karesh leaps onto the table and springs off again, trying to grab the chandelier and swing onto the stairs," "Sathi searches her memory for any bit of information about the habits or customs of doppelgangers,") and I'll give you the result and skill involved ("Karesh nabs the chandelier and expertly flies above the rail to land poised on the stairs," [spoiler box--Athletics {14=0+14 rolled}, Acrobatics {25=8+17 rolled}], "Sathi spends a few moments in thought and recalls that doppelgangers keep several different outfits at hand to change their disguises [spoiler box--Nature {15=11+4 rolled}]).

Any more questions before we kick this thing off?

Finally done with finals woop. That business final sucked big time.

Cole kneels at the lava chasms edge, his eyes now unaffected by the ash and smoke that rises from the depths. His hood actually catches the black soot drifting around the area as he speaks to the magma in some hissing and guttering elemental language. Every once in a while the leather-clad warlock slings fire at a prominant stone on the other side of the chasm, keeping it heated to bright red. A flame glyph carved into the stone glows almost white in the center of it.
There is quite a bit of traffic at the crossroads today and the omens from the flames were very dark indeed this day. Portents of adventure and travel to far off lands.

[sblock=ooc] even though i think this is the ooc right?
I have a couple questions how much does the amulet of protection cost and weigh and could you make a couple example posts for us you said top that doesn't mean the title does it? [/sblock]

Norian gets the faint wiff of sulfur in the air. Odd? he thinks.
