D&D 5E What belongs in a $50 PHB?

Probably not as I didn't buy it with DM content either. 3.5E is enough to fill my D20 needs.
I did buy Shadowrun though. A complete game for $60.

Derren, is there anything you've heard about 5e that you think is positive? Anything you like a lot?

Lets pretend that D&D Next starts to grow on you, and you find yourself having a change of heart to the point you honestly think it's the d20 game for you: Would you be willing to drop the $50 on the PHB, even if it contains no DM info at all?

I think that is the question that is most pertinent to this discussion.

What do I think belongs in a $50 PHB? A complete set of character options.

And when I say complete, I mean complete. I mean at least 9 Wizard subclasses. I mean a full list of psionic powers. I mean animal companions, monster summoning tables, and stronghold construction.

Of course, we're not getting any of that stuff, and I'll buy it anyway, but that's my wish list.

5E would have go grow a lot more on me if it costs $100 or even $150 spread over multiple books to start playing instead of $50-$60, especially when I am not fully convinced that I will like it.

I wouldn't.

I would just wait until a used copy showed up on Amazon.

And, by that same logic, would you buy 5e even if all the rulebooks were $30 each?

The point is Derren, is you just don't like D&D Next, and you wouldn't buy it even if the prices were lower. You are outside the target audience for this product. So it's a bit disingenuous to claim $10 is your deal-breaker isn't it? It's really just the latest in a long list of subjective things you don't like.
