because we know a piece of paper with 18,000 signatures can make somebody else do something they don't have to do.

Well, not that they are really signatures, but it is up to 55K now.

Not that I want Beth back. I think the show will be better without her.

I agree. After all, action and drama without possibility of final death is.... comic books. Well not THAT comic book but, you know, in general.

I just think petitions like this are silly.

I could go get 55K signatures to agree that Umbran should make his sig say "Janx is always righter than me*" but there's no power to actually make him do it.

*I'm pretty sure if he did have such a sig, it would be the one time he'd be wrong. :)

I am not at all sure you'd find that many people who were going to bother, what with both of us being pop-culture nobodies.

But, there is a difference. I am not strongly controlled by market forces - unless those 55K people are all EN Worlders, I don't care much about their opinion on the matter. The folks who make TWD *are* driven by market forces. They want ratings, and they want 'em bad. If they are told strongly enough that bringing Beth back would drive ratings, they might just do it.

Mind you, it looks like a bit over 14 million people saw the episode. 55K is less than one percent of the viewers, so that petition can probably be safely ignored as an indicator.
