Wait what, scale mail doesnt give you advantage on climb checks? Been doing that wrong,
at least it looks like its fashioned after a reptile
 


I like my characters to be merchants - so I usually wear scale mail. That way I am always ready to weigh coins on my scales, and make sure they're really gold.
 

Half plate is probably the best way for a Dex based character to get AC, if they're willing to spend the feat for it.

AC of Full plate, but at half the cost, no STR requirement (Lighter for those who use encumbrance instead), and no stealth penalty.

You lose the Damage reduction feat, but you can't have it all.
