D&D 5E People didn't like the Psionic Talent Die

DANGIT people! It was interesting! It was even that hard to learn! It's simpler than learning how to use spell slots!

Why have Psionic then if it's just more boring spells shenanigans?!

I swear... all the fun stuff get downvoted by people who can't just learn a simple new rule.

AUGH!
Folks can learn a new thing, they just don’t want to when Psionics is literally just a kind of magic that doesn’t need its own special mechanics in a game where arcane and divine magic work exactly the same.

Psionics are never going to happen. Too many people want too many different things from them for any one approach to clear their satisfaction threshold.

Well, that’s not entirely true. Eventually something will be boring enough that most players are fine with it. But it’s going to be a while.
Absolutely. People don't want new classes that are different and unique, they just want classes they're familiar with. Add a new mechanic, they'll think it's either too convoluted or too simple. Keep using the same mechanic, and people will think it's too safe.

Our new psionic subclass is going to be a sorcerer with the exact same formula as the other sorcerers if this keeps up.

I agree. Psionic should be a different caster class, but not necessarily a new type of spellcaster. I'd probably go with the warlock chasis...just because its the only class that uses it!.

I'm just sad to see the increasing/decreasing die go away. I hope they re-use it for another class or subclass.

Well, they've sold 5E as simple and accessible......we should expect 5E fans to vote that way. And yes, that is an absolute statement when it's a sliding scale or dial.....

5e....the Pop Music version of Dungeons & Dragons.

It reminds me of having a bright prodigy of a child you once had great hopes for....only to see them be content washing dishes at a Denny's and getting high with their friends at 25.

I wonder if people didn't like the randomness of being 'punished' for rolling 'well' and 'rewarded' for rolling 'poorly'. If so, a possible fix would be to allow the psion to choose to take the largest number on the die (perhaps also doubling it) and have it diminish as a result, or to give up a die size to fuel some other special effect.

Shame, I am enjoying the Psi Die mechanic on my now 5th level Psi Knight.
It can be harsh, when the Force is too much with you!

Last session ended with me out of Psi Recovery actions and my Psi die shrunk to a d4.

Ohh well...I’m still playing it, and having a blast.

A psionic sorcerer that can spend SP on "mind" spells.
An eldritch knight fighter but enchantment and illusion
A rogue swashbuckler with free magic daggers/swords

See, I am just the opposite. If I've learned a maneuver with a weapon or against an attack, I should be able to use it whenever the time arises. Why can't I try to trip an opponent with my Trip Attack whenever I want?
I disagree completely. I've done some amateur sword fighting (LARPing & with my sons), and that is just not realistic. To be honest, fatigue is a much bigger thing in fights than the game traditionally provides.

However, it also isn't practical. The situation that makes sense to trip every attack just doesn't happen. The idea with a limit resource is that not only is it more exhausting, it can be or is additionally more difficult to pull off. If I blindly try to trip someone with every attack I'm going to get my head bashed in.
