The Metamagic one is actually nearly identical to how I have been ruling my "High Magic" from the ancient empire. (thematically wizards that could alter spells like sorcerers)
Combine Metamagic Adept with the Elven High Magic from Kobold Press and ya got Elven High Magic.

Not a big fan. One of the big pluses for 5e is that they have, so far, shown a fair amount of restraint in burying us under an avalanche of feats, which was a big problem in the last two editions. I don't particularly care for the "raid this class's unique schtick via feat" either. I get that they are intended to be pseudo-multiclass feats, but there are too many ways these can be opened up for abuse.

Then again, I'm not a huge fan of feats to begin with, I tend think they're a broken design that just won't go away.

I don't like the schtick-snagging feats but some of these feats have limitations that keep the schtick purely in the base class. But some fail.

Eldritch Adept and Metamagic Adept are okay. Tracker is bad bad bad.

That's why I would love a feat that adds additional favored enemies or terrain but I don't know how to limit it to not make rangers a complete dead class. Same with extrarages or more ki points.

We used to think like you, but since we stopped using ASI and multi-classing and gone feats only my players have absolutely loved it. I pretty much allow every UA feat and they have loved modifying there characters in ways they never have before. Not sure why, but it has really worked for us and all of these feats have been a blessing. Fortunately with 5e they are completely optional, so people who want them can get them and those you don't, don't need them.

That's good to hear, and I'm glad your group is having fun! I just get shades of 3.x feat trees and ultimate 'builds' when I see some of these feats and shudder. Admittedly a knee-jerk reaction, though. I like that in 5e, they have given most classes a set of "in class" abilities to choose from that can round out a character's options from a list of, admittedly smaller, choices (Invocations, metamagic, maneuvers, etc.).

We skipped 3e (1e to 4e to 5e) so we don't have those type of reactions.

It's funny, but a while back after one of the UA surveys, WotC said that they found people who played 3E were the ones who were mainly set against 3E specific elements like Feats and Prestige Classes....
I wouldn't mind if 5E Prestige classes were for levels 15-20.
