That’s why I said it will never happen.

At the very least, I would like them to revise the assassin as it just isn’t all that great mechanically (aside from the level 3 ability).
Yeah two separate subclass levels dedicated to “infiltrate even better than the auto win infiltration we gave you at level 3” makes the archetype pretty unappealing to me, mechanically, especially when combined with how brutally situational Assassinate is. Just add “or that is unaware of the Assassin’s presence” to the requirements for the full ability, and it works much better.

Looking at how Feywild now communicates a race, is this even needed? Its already going to be completely wide open 'Choose your own.' across the board for everything, assuming its 'generally humanoid/human' with variation of 'small or medium' at most.

What is it that Ravenloft ones do differently for you?
They have the "Ancestral Lineage" feature that lets them keep movement speeds and skill proficiencies that their original races give them. So if this changed happened, a Sea Elf that became a Tiefling would keep their swim speed, and a Fairy that became an Aasimar would keep their flying speed.

That's the difference.

A Sea Elf shouldnt become a Tiefling. A Tiefling is born?

Okay. A Sea Elf and a Cambion of Infernal Heritage have a baby. The baby is a Sea Elf, but with infernal powers. That would be possible by turning all Planetouched into Lineages.

When I look at the Lineage thing, I just see Templates from prior editions, so I get you, but I dont think you can do that with Tieflings or Aasimar, or even Genasi anymore, as they are more defined.

On the OTHER hand, as I noted last page in an edit, the (probable) definition of many of these races is now going to be.

"Do you have Darkvision? Y/N. Here are 2 or 3 special rules. Race defined."

So you could just template them all out. :(

(I'm sure you can determine how I feel about the impending changes.)

Some modest requests, some that might have more knock-on effects than is practical, some pie-in-the-sky. I just expect they'll roll in all the options from post-PHB material into the new core books.
  • Unify how pets/minions work with regard to initiative & action economy. It seems each kind has its own slightly different rules, which I find confusing. Any exception should be rare and highlighted (such as the Tasha's Beast Master Ranger's pet acting during the Ranger's turn). Maybe there could be 1–3 different types, and each pet will specify its type, and maybe your pet type could be upgradable via subclass feature, upcasting, or feat.
  • Give Rangers a non-spellcasting subclass/option, maybe themed similarly to the Rune Knight fighter subclass. (Not sure if Paladin would want this too, I've never been interested in Paladins.)
  • Rangers that do cast spells should be able to prepare them as Paladins do, rather than having spells known.
  • Ranger's Favored Foe & Hunter's Mark are similar but not the same, scaling differently with level too. That should be cleaned up.
  • Offer more general versions of highly-specific subclasses, such as Wildfire Druid. I'd love to see different types of spirits or emphases than fire. (Such a heartbreaker for me!)
  • Retune spells that routinely get poor ratings (*/red or worse) in the various guides on the Net.
  • Make your action also be usable as a bonus action, so that you could do 1 action & 1 bonus action on your turn, or 2 bonus actions.
  • Make it explicit that Concentration is a general thing, not just for spells.
  • At minimum provide some rationale for why certain static effects require Concentration beyond arbitrary limitation of power. (Wall spells, I'm lookin' at you.) Or, make such effects a little bit dynamic; you could move a portion of a wall, or repair a bit of damage to it, as one example. Or give such effects a short default duration, which can be extended by concentrating from the start.
  • I'd like to see Concentration have even a little wiggle room, and would be willing to take this tradeoff (possibly granted at some level or via feat): If you are concentrating on an effect, you can activate a second Concentration effect, but must make a Concentration check or lose both. If you are concentrating on two things, all Concentration checks are at disadvantage, and you cannot cast any leveled spells (or must make a Concentration check at disadvantage to do so).
  • Get rid of Bards. (Just kidding, this one's for Snarf Zagyg's amusement.)
EDIT: Updated my own text about Concentration to be general and not just about spells.

Replacing bonus actions with actions, you get a move and two actions, done. Bonus actions are great and all but not always clear and my players have to look up if they have a bonus action. Just going with two actions instead of Action, Move and maybe bonus action greatly simplifies things while allowing for those bonus actions to remain.

I'm pretty satisfied with 5e overall though so unless it is either amazing or worth the change without invalidating everything, more akin to 1e-2e changes than 3e-3.5 or 4e and then to 5e, all being from the ground up reinventions and thus new games, I am not really interested and more than likely buying two more 5e PHB and another DMG and MM instead. I'm 46 and learning a new game is just not on my radar with DCC doing a lot of the things I like and 1e really being my favorite version.
