So far we have Eberron, Ravnica, Sort of the Forgotten Realms, Ravenloft, Theros, soon Strixhaven/Arcavios, next year 2 Classic Settings, the year after another Classic setting and maybe if all goes well 2 new settings, and a setting revisit in 2024.

That's 11 Settings and revisit, which is funny because for years 5e got by on nothing, but a small slice of 1 setting.

Do you think there could be some MtG setting snuck in during 2022, 2023, and 2024? and where is all the cries of setting bloat, it's 2e all over again? LMFAO 🤣😂
I do think they're putting out too much content now, but I'm not really mad about it. I think the reason we don't have cries of setting bloat is that every setting book contributes to and is fully compatible with the core, PHB based, homebrew, game. There is no split of the fanbase from it, because you can easily use the stuff from Theros in your Eberron game, or your homebrew game, doesn't matter.

I wonder if they will start making the adventures more setting agnostic, to the extent possible, because they can't rely on groups playing in the forgotten realms. Otherwise they'd just have these one-off setting books and a bunch of FR-specific content.

Yeah I definitely see the wisdom in what you're saying, but man...I wish DnD would get less generic rather than more.

The only thing new to me in the above is the "setting revisit in 2024." Where was that mentioned? Anyhow, if true, I'd add one more MtG setting in, probably in 2023. So my guess would be:

2015 (0.5): FR (sorta)
2018 (1): Ravnica
2019 (1): Eberron
2020 (2): Wildemount, Theros
2021 (2): Ravenloft, Strixhaven
2022 (3): Two classic settings, one new setting
2023 (3): One classic setting, one new setting, one Magic setting
2024: Setting revisit, ?

Considering that there was one a year in 2018-19, two a year in 2020-21, it makes sense that we'll see three a year in 2022-23, especially if they up the major products to six per year (which may or may not be the case; if only five, probably not).

No idea about what Magic setting they'll cover next. We've gone over the classic settings, but I think it is is Planescape (2022) and Dark Sun (2023), and probably Dragonlance (2022), considering that they have allegedly emphasized "revisit" for 2024, and if they were going to do the Realms in the next two years, they could have called it a classic setting revisit.

So the last question is, which classic setting will be revisited? I think the main candidates are either the Realms (that campaign book finally) or a Ravenloft expansion. Eberron being the only other choice.

The revisit was first mentioned last year along side the new settings NONE MtG settings and then was said on Twitter that it was for 2024 (the same year as 5.5e core books, very doubtful that is an accident, Forgotten Realms gets some kind of setting book every major/minor edition change since it came out). Forgotten Realms = Revisited Setting.

1. By then there will be metric ton of usable MtG art for the Forgotten Realms.

2. The Way of the Drow Drizzt trilogy will be over so no fear that it will spoil the trilogy before its over, the new Campaign book can cover the events that transpire.

3. BG3 will be full released

4. The 5.5e Core Books will be released and tradition is to release a new FR campaign book with each major/minor edition.

5. No book in 5e gets more complaints then the SCAG,no one complains about the other setting books (except those who don't like Eberron's cosmology being merged in to the Great Wheel and that ship sales with Witchlight). So that leaves FR needing a revisit.

6. FR fans have been badging WotC for years now for info on the rest of the Forgotten Realms, heck even just rest of Faerun!

7. There are host of events have occurred that need updating in an FR campaign book and major changes to monster races they want to make eventually.

Well it makes sense. I mean, I know the Greyhawk folks are hoping for a big box set for the 50th anniversary, but I just don't think that is as sellable as a FR box, which would sell like hotcakes, imo. Maybe they should contract out to Beadles & Grimm a mega-box for Greyhawk.

Given the increased rate of releases, it's not an either or situation, especially in 2024 the 50th Anniversary when they want things to be a big and possible. So it could be both, it might not be both, it might just be FR, BUT I think it's at least possible it could be both. I do think it's going to be more then the 5.5e and FR anyways even if they don't do Greyhawk as well, although beyond the yearly summer adventure & maybe another adventure anthology (of which I will never buy another one after Candlekeep Mysteries).
