myconids would lose their thing if you made them a player race.
blights are evil monsters.

Cactaur

Pumpkin - any of the various Jack-o-lantern pumpkinheads presented as Halloween specials :)

Blights might be monsters but evil isnt precluded from PC alignments and the PHB already features the spawn-of-Asmodeus as a playable race option

Cactaur lacks a culture but cactus people is not a bad idea as a starting point.

look I do not like making all monsters people sometimes you just want a real monster who is their to kill you like a rabid lion.

If i might tangent from one homebrew to another for a moment here, i designed this race not too long ago using guidelines from an old thread, as it was a wisdom species I thought you might like to look at it?
Name: Storm Imp
Small Creature, 25ft movement
Dex +1 Wis +2

Proficiency on nature checks

Hidden Step
-Bonus action, you can magically turn invisible until the start of your next turn or until you attack, make a damage roll, or force someone to make a saving throw 1/LR

Breath Weapon 1/LR
-pick a 15ft cone of one of:
lightning (dex save)
thunder (con save)
cold (con save)

Innate Spellcasting 1/LR
-at lvl 3: fog cloud
-at lvl 5: blur

Darkvision
Trance
Hold Breath
Speak with Elementals

There wasn’t a ton of thought into this it was just for fun

nice stats what was their lore?

lore is where the hooks of a race really get to be planted.
Can’t say I personally agree with that but opinions are opinions
I just have more fun designing the mechanics side of things, my brain doesn’t handle building the lore side of things as well as mechanics, and lore tends to be much more malleable and can be chopped and changed to fit a setting

Edit: what lore would you give them then? Genuinely asking, not a ‘well let’s see you do better’ thing, anyone who wants to answer please do I’m curious.

but how does it make them wiser or is it they simply have sharper senses?
The dwarves in their mountain strongholds are isolated and proud. Their visions are turned inward, focused on dwarven pursuits.

The exiled dwarves are exposed to the broader world - and while this hasn't made them friendlier, it has broadened their perspectives. Their hilltop holds are often not as secure, they travel more, and have to be more on their guards.
