WotC D&D Direct--Learn About Upcoming D&D On April 21st!

D&D Direct is a 30-minute video which WotC will be releasing on April 21st at 9am Pacific Time (5pm BST, if I have my time zones correct). They'll be using it to reveal stuff about upcoming D&D projects (including video games and entertainment). The video will be presented by Anna Prosser and B. Dave Walters.

This is being billed in an emailed announcement entitled "Learn Everything That’s Happening This Year for Dungeons & Dragons" as the "first ever D&D Direct", so presumably there are more planned.

That's risky in that there's little reason to expect the Guild to be open to the setting for several months

It doesn't need to be flagged as spelljammer, the locations mentioned in the blurb are all in the Forgotten Realms.

They can release it as a FR adventure, then update it to Spelljammer as and when it becomes available.

So the D&D developer community is small. Relatively speaking, at a certain level anyway. And they talk to each other. And I think that leads to synergies. Like this for instance.

It's a fair assumption but I think that Cook and co. have been planning this one for a while. Monte would have waited for the revision and just released the Cypher version with an eye to releasing had he inside information plus he's well known for his Planescape work and cashes in on that reputation periodically like with Numenera (post core emphasis on the weird and crazier elements that are more akin to Planescape than what was in the core), Between Worlds (could be the wrong title there) from 3.5 era and some of his other Malhavoc Press work.

I remember in early 2019, there were a lot of freelance writers suddenly putting out seafaring material, while Dragon Talk was discussing underwater combat rules, for no apparent reason...and then Ghoats of Saltmarsh was announced.

They are just good at educated guesswork, like some of us here. I don't think they are privy to secret information.

At least they're doing it at the start of the day in a far west time zone, not the end as they sometimes do. Geography is not the friend of events scheduled late on western side of the US--pretty much the entire planet is ahead of them.

In some cases they are. Playtesters can publish on the DMsGuild, and really there's nothing wrong with that.
