Spelljammer What is Spelljammer, video interview with Chris Perkins

No, in Spelljammer you could always sail the phlogiston to travel between spheres.
Replacing phlogiston with Astral Sea and spheres with Wildspace doesn't change that
it changes the need for a spellcaster (good enough spellcaster supremacy) but it sounds in the video like you don't even need a ship... again my rug of flying example

no, in the old days there where crystal spheres you needed to be able to pierce (some easier some harder some in theory impossible) and you would need a spell jamming helm and the ability to survive the between place (P word I am not going to try to get past my spell check)

From the sound of the video a carpet of flying that has no upper limit can take you from krynn to toril
Many Crystal Spheres had openings that you could fly through.

A Carpet of Flying won't work cause the vacuum will kill you.

my guess is it's dark cause it's night so you can't see that well...
I'm not sure if this is funny, and if so I m apologize. You could leave a planet showing a clear, starry sky and, when you get into space, suddenly its this garish, riotous mass of color, through which you could barely see the stars (which are apparently in another plane) that you could clearly see from the planet's surface. That makes no sense at all, not even narratively.

It's a sphere around a whole system of planets and other objects. Like the Crystal Spheres of the old version, but instead of crystal it's a misty barrier now.

If the ship is close enough that could maybe work. But there is still no air in wild space.
Do they say that? That would at least be something, although its a small percentage of the issues here.

I meant it half as a joke and half as a dig at how it wasn't thought through.

not even a little. I am sure given time and more info I could make up something better but... right now 🤷 it's too dark to see the colors

when was this said? I see living (I assume breathing) creatures flying through... they describe it like the sea and someone in a thread said something about space dolphines...
I am currently going by old Spelljammer rules this might change with the new version. Objects and creatures of a large enough size will generate their own gravity plane in Wildspace which forms a bubble around them, and can take atmosphere with them into Wildspace. Smaller atmospheres can be replenished by running into other atmospheres, while ones on the larger side can self maintain.

the fact that they are CHANGING things is what makes me ask... I have the old rules

all of this is what I would have assumed yesterday but this new version doesn't seem to be the same.
