Dragonlance Dragonlance: Solamnic Knights & Mages of High Sorcery Preview

WotC has shared another preview of the upcoming Dragonlance setting/adventure with a look at backgrounds and feats for Solamnic Knights and Mages of High Sorcery. Feats include Squire of Solamnia and Initiate of High Sorcery. Interestingly, one prerequisite is "Dragonlance Campaign", which implies that the feats can't be used outside that setting...

Oh, I think they're plenty creative, but the constraints have changed - from above and below. Every time they try to reach too far out of the box that "is D&D", they get yelled at by the fans as either too different or straying too far from established canon.
I really wonder what kind of parameters the designers are working under. They're part of a giant publicly traded company, so the eyes looking at them are certainly going to be different than anything that ever happened at TSR.

That's the million dollar question.

I have said several times Hasbro wants D&D to become a multimedia franchise, and other said "a lifestyle brand". And now this is the best time for D&D, more popular than ever. There is a new generation what isn't too happy with the current videogame industry, neither the comics of superheroes, and they are willing to try new experiences.

My question is if Hasbro would dare to use Dragonlance for crossovers, and I don't mean planerswalkers visiting Krynn but skins in Fortnite and that type of things. I wouldn't be too surprised with a LEGO: Dragonlance (and later this adapted to a videogame and an animated serie).

Stryxhaven seems quite a long way outside the box, at least much so as anything TSR produced. And it seems to have not been particularly successful.

And I think the same goes for the TSR era products - the more creative they were, the less profitable they turned out to be.

I imagine Stryxhaven has been more like planting the seed. You have to wait for it to grow. It needs time to create a good story with interesting characters. My opinion is Stryxhaven was created to become the future successor of Harry Potter franchise, and this will happen some day.

If there will be a LEGO: D&D then we could see a LEGO: Stryxhaven, and later a videogame and an animated serie. These would enjoy the adventage about freedom with the continuity.

my bet is they HAVE to justify every choice made as helping the largest segmint... this may be a big reason for the surveys so they can show "Even if it doesn't sell more people want X then Y"
they also have to have limits on how much controversy they can stir up.

Yeah, I'm sure their decisions are MUCH more data driven. "We have evidence to suggest this book will sell X copies based on this data" sorta thing. Ben Riggs book Slaying the Dragon was pretty clear TSR, especially in the Lorraine Williams days, was extremely bad at using sales data to drive future products.

I would hope WotC/Hasbro has a better grasp
