Right, it's "per day" so 8 hours is a good guideline.

I'd say if you're traveling in a way that's conducive to reading track & sign, following creek beds, digging up potential root vegetable beneath the frost, following meandering animal tracks to see what they ate recently – i.e. not traveling by dogsled, not traveling as "fast pace" – you could do this as your "Travel Role" over a journey of ~8 hours.

This is the automatically successful bit thanks to your Outlander background. So foods like... snowberries, hares, weasels, rock moss, juniper tips, pine needle tea, roots preserved beneath the frost, (and if you're near a lake maybe cold clams).

Yeah, the 5e guideline is 1 pound of food = sustains 1 person for a day.

Yeah, locate animals & plants would help for sure, but the hunt then isn't an auto-success so a check/hunt would be involved. The plus side to doing it the "long hard way" is that a knucklehead trout can weigh up to 50 lbs, and game like bear, elk, reindeer, or even mammoth (or dragon ) can provide a lot of food – even if you assume only 1/2 of the carcass by weight is edible.

Assuming it is nearing the hour of the mask time - after all, people came and went and the whole game of cards was played in the meantime...the halfing delivered the message, went to relieve himself and the gnome returned and watched the end game of cards, positioned so that he can see the authority pair.

They are well paid judging by their attitudes toward losing coin gambling, and happy not to be out in the cold right now. Morale is fair, not great, but not bad. Seems like even thought they've had their fill of wizards, their patron is having them head out tomorrow looking for another mage.
