Never claimed streaming has 0 revenue I said Paramount is losing money. I did do basic accounting there's a difference between revenue and profit.

Link I provided said it was available August last year on streaming. I got the release date wrong because it was a iirc moment.

Main point is it's an older movie and you thought HAT beating it as an achievement. It's been out for a while. In a month or two no one will care about HAT on VoD it won't be a new release anymore.

When I look at the numbers site it says the worldwide box office was $207,954,816, while the production budget was $150,000,000.

Are there costs that are typically not included in a movie's production budget (e.g. overhead, pre-production, development)? Are those 10% of production cost like contingency in other industries?

Are there relevant profits not typically included in "worldwide box office"?

A theater takes roughly 50% of the box office take.

So, it made $208 million. The theaters took roughy $104 million. Meaning the studio took home $104 million.

Also, the advertising cost is NOT factored in to the production cost. There are no hard numbers on these costs for this movie, but it is safe to assume somewhere between $50 million and $100 million.

So, the studio made $104 million on a total cost of $200 -250 million.

Did it make additional money on the back end, with Blu-Ray and Streaming? Sure. We don't know how much.

It did FINANCIALLY flop at the box office. It was a successful critically, and it is killing it on streaming (it has been at the top of several streaming services for almost a month).

Whether that helps it break even, or if ends up being a loss-leader with expectations of doing better as a sequel, is yet to be seen.

I don't want WotC or D&D to fail. Though I am off to other things for the foreseeable future. I loved the movie too. And I'm not sure it bombed, but I have to admit I don't think it was a clear success at the box office either.

I will note that all evidence seems to me shows it did better than expected. If that means anything.

I hope it's doing good after the theatre cause I think I'd like to see another.

Ehh I want to see the film succeed because I loved it and want a sequel.

I'm also being realistic based on it's box office numbers. It probably lost a good amount at the box office based on its budget and marketing costs. I hope it makes enough at the secondary markets to get a sequel but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Oh, fair enough.

There is a pretty big difference between, "This film did okay", "This film didn't do great", and "This film bombed at the box office and was a total disaster". It's more the latter that I'm looking at.
