D&D (2024) D&D 5.11 - the time of big change is over

I don’t understand deal breakers. As mentioned previously I hate the current Warlock build but I just don’t play one.

Dealbreakers for me represent things Id have to replace wholesale with my own creations. I didn't have to replace the old Ranger to address its issues.

But Im also not using Dealbreaker as a hard line in the sand either. If the rest of the system had turned out for the better (among other non-system issues just not occurring in the first place), then even with this Ranger I would have been okay.

But its just a great confluence of things that I and my group just won't be able to mesh with.

If you love the current ranger, and the 2024 books change it in a way you find unacceptable… Sure, you could move to the new rules and not play a ranger, or you could stick with the 2014 rules and keep playing a ranger. If the ranger is so important to you, the latter might be the more appealing option.

this being the only thing we know about is not the same thing as this being all that is changing back, unfortunately
Which is why didn’t say it’s the only thing that’s being reverted, I said it’s the only thing we know is being reverted.

We can also pretty safely guess that not much else from the other UAs is being reverted, since they’ve been posting videos after each UA going over the feedback from it, and most stuff is exceeding the 70% threshold. Stuff that I remember them saying isn’t off the top of my head was like… Ardlings, the nerf to Sneak Attack, ranged Smites for paladins, and Wild Shape. I think that might actually be everything we know missed the mark.

There was a lot of ambiveavout newer versions of features for Classes like Rogue or Cleric. We'll probavly see a mix, with some of the newer stuff and some of the older stuff. The changes to Smite and Sneak Attack went over like a lead balloon.

Even though it probably didn't get a "wow" reaction from the community I thought standardizing what levels every class gets subclass features was a good move for streamlining the game. It could also allow things like subclasses that work across multiple classes.
I understand the decision to keep the 5.14e subclass progression so that the pre-5.24e subclass still work without much fuss, but a standardized subclass progression would have been cool, too. Still, I have no strong feelings about this either way.

I'm hoping weapon mastery sticks around (and is maybe expanded), but I also want fighters to gain something much more than that, too. I mean, if the wizard is getting additional cool abilities, let the fighter get some, too.
