Spoilers Doctor Who 2024 (spoilers)

I was just watching the Hartnell Tombstone episodes a little while ago and it comes up as a joke. He has to register and put names down at a hotel and the companions have been calling him "Doctor" so he puts down "Doctor Caligari" for himself. I believe it is either Wyatt Earp or Bat Masterson who says "Doctor Who?" at which the Doctor chuckles and says "Yes, precisely."

I don't really care for the repeated narrator singing of the episodes but I am enjoying the word play identity setup shenanigans of "The Doctor" and "Doc" Holiday.
I also watched it, maybe 2 weeks ago, and the singing was putting me off. Definitely a product of its time, which usually isn't an issue for me.

That story was really hated at the time, but I think it stands up quite well as a comedy/musical story. These days musical episodes are all the rage! Linda Barron sings the song.

Watched that not too long ago and hoo boy, yeah, the singing narration was rough. What was worse fro me were thew terrible American Western accents. The singing I could ff thru, but not a story's-worth of bad accents.

Also, Steven is one of my least favorite companions. My impression of him is "loud and kind of dumb", but some of that is how he treats the female companions, which in turn is just '60s sexism.

The first link sources an article at SFFGazette, which in turns sources the Deadline article, which states "...our across-the-board analysis of Doctor Who’s ratings and critical reception paints a nuanced picture, one that is reflective of the difficulty of judging modern-day TV series’ performance when so many metrics are in play."

So...?

So click-bait article title.

So click-bait article title.

I recommend reading the deadline article. Both sides are kind of seeing things the way they want to here I think. The article offers a few different perspectives and possibilities
I do think it's worth reading, because it seems to be a detailed, deep dive. But, there are a lot of question marks for something that will clearly feed the "Disney Who FAILS!!1!" beast.

Sure but there are also question marks for people saying it is a success. People should read the article, decide for themselves. When I read this stuff, I am not at all interested in the click bait websites or official lines from companies making things, I am interested in figuring out what is actually happening and deciding for myself if I like the content. It doesn't have to be this epic battle between good and evil, it can just be 1) You like it or you don't because of X, Y and Z, and 2) It succeeds or fails because people are watching or they aren't. It isn't a matter of life and death

For me they are so bad they are super enjoyable. I am loving it. :)
