(OOC) Scourge of Daggerford (Full)

Well, now everyone needs to have DC 15. Let's say someone uses the same skill twice (such as Lunn - although I tried to use them for different things) - add 2. Someone uses something fairly unrelated (i.e. architecture lore to run up the stairs faster equals to DC 20 or even 25 - possible, but not likely) and so on.

ALSO, SAVED @FitzTheRuke

Yeah, I see people trying to use their best skills and sometimes it’s like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole but, otoh, I like the idea of creative uses for skills.

One option is, if you make it a group check, everyone who rolls a successful check adds a bonus to the main roller for that round.

So, that way, it’s only one roll per round but the group can make the chance of success higher. So maybe the roll is athletics but the guy with architecture remembers the best way to go so adds a +1 if he succeeds. Kind of like the 3.5 aid rules.

But then you could add levels of success: for every 5 above the dc is an extra +1 to the end -goal.

So everyone rolls vs dc 15. One person does the main action and has to beat the 15 to make headway towards the overall goal. Everyone else’s success gives the main roller a +1 to the roll, increasing the chance of pushing the roll to success or even 5 over, adding extra points towards end goal.

Still have a 3 round test.

Oh yes, the BASE DC is 15 - checks that are perfect choices can be lower, or ones that are less related can be higher, plus sometimes someone else's success can help those that follow.

I want it simple, but with branching complexity. It worked okay.

There are really so many ways to do it that work, though most of them also have drawbacks.

Might be me. I'm keeping up with ONE of my games, but mostly I've been reading and answering questions on the DMG. But I think also, when it comes to this game, there wasn't what I would call a lot of Action Declarations. Or in other words, I don't really know what any of you are doing. I think everyone is waiting to see what others will do. I'll go double-check and see if I can push things forward.

I just need time for Morgan to get to the surface so he can properly join the conversation
I just saw your IC post. I’ll post something in the next day or so. Not sure if anyone wants to take charge of negotiations.

I think if we just run away, it’ll come after us in some other guise. I think the only option is to banish it but we don’t have that spell.

We could try to negotiate. It probably has a lot of info on the titan and all the things that are going on. We could trade that for its release (but that would mean keeping it with us) or just give it the rod.

@FitzTheRuke is it currently tangible?

It is part of the story, but a dangerous one. Talking with, or worse negotiating with, powerful devil...that is a recipe for getting shafted.

Metagaming: Assume it's deception is in high teens, Tommi expertise is +10. He could play all the ticks and tells you want and you still couldn't be sure it's not part of the ploy.

We don't know if breaking the rod will free it or banish it or destroy it. In all cases, we lose
1. It kills us or leaves us by its own choice, we have nonsay in the matter
2. It goes back to hell possibly with failed mission or back to his enemies who got it banished and with a grudge against us

We lose the rod and potential info from it in all cases

I understand what you are saying here, and (in Tommi's mind) that's what he's avoiding. I am sorry that wasn't clear.

In game terms: we're not going to overcome a Pit Fiend's Deception checks, and any conversation with a Devil is going to involve legalistic wrangling Tommi's not ready for; but (I imagine) he might be able to overcome its Insight checks.

We will see.

Yup -- and it occurs to me that we haven't really looked at the Rod (does it have buttons on the side?). But Tommi wouldn't be able to break a sword with his hands, and so he won't be able to break a Rod of Lordly Might.

We'll see what happens: we really don't know ANYTHING; I am not certain that we lose by trying to break this, though. If it does work -- excitement, though possibly death for Tommi. If it doesn't... well, then we can find a hole in the ground or an open volcano (with maybe some eagles to get us there).
