@Kobold Stew please a bit of ooc next time. We semi-agreed to let you run out for scouting and Tommi gets mad when we follow and get in trouble...but this is whole another level

yes, pbp is slow, but still, some discussion would be nice. We can wait for one post per person to agree where we're going, right?
I'm not sure how to respond to this, but I will try.

This is not the first time you have criticized my play, but it is the first time in this game that I can think of someone has stopped an action of another player. When I play face-to-face, this would be unthinkable, but I accept not every table is the same, and we don't have the benefit of fellowship or comraderie. However, you also had the opportunity to post in the ooc, and you chose not to.

It appears to me that you are confusing me for my character. Tommi is impulsive, but I am not, and I think I was pretty slow to act. I'll offer support for both halves of that sentence.

* First, check out his character sheet: "Personality: happy go lucky. I've always got by so far. Odds are I will tomorrow as well. ... Flaw: A sleeping bear? I should poke it." This choice should not be a surprise to you.

* On October 18 Tommi turned to the group and asked for discussion (asking the fiend "Maybe you can just give us a sec?"). Almost everyone weighed in. Twelve days later, someone else in the group nudged us to take action, so I posted an action for Tommi. You reacted to that post, on Wednesday, and said nothing. I have posted once since then (drawing out the action, recognizing it was controversial) and three days later you have responded. I took your "wow" reaction and subsequent silence as acceptance. I really do not believe I was rushing anything.

You ask for OOC discussion. Yes, Let's.

I am saying the characters should try to break the rod, and anyone who wants should be at a safe distance. I have no idea what the result will be, or if it's possible. But I feel that choice both advances the story and keeps the group central in the action, which giving it away does not. It also seems true to Tommi. I further believe we are ill-equipped to negotiate with a devil.

An alternative (the one Tommi would think of if it doesn't break) would be to try to bury it or hide it so that it can be never found again. But it would be us (the characters) doing it, on our own, and it would not involve bringing a partially-captive Pit Fiend back to a community, which does not seem to me either wise or kind (both of which I feel characterize Tommi).

Lunn would be a natural person to try to break the rod with Tommi, and we could Help each other, but it would put Lunn in the blast radius I am imagining (as I described in a subsequent post, 3531).

Let's discuss.

I’d like to pipe in on the discussion.

IC: Morgan shouted from below and it took time for him to run up to join everyone.

OOC I took this time to see how others wanted to deal with the rod since, narratively, it made no sense for Morgan to take part in the discussion. Since no-one answered besides Kobold, I let Tommi/kobold take control of the action.

From my ooc perspective, I’d like to identify the Rod and, possibly, figure out this Pit Fiend mystery But also, from that same perspective, breaking the rod may end up being an interesting outcome that may complicate things and advance the story quicker. since no one was posting, I figured why slow down the game by debating something nobody feels strongly about.

That’s why IC, Morgan is “too late” to act.

Edit: I guess the one thing is there were several posts in quick succession on Wednesday that went from “bluffing the pit fiend to see how he’d react” straight to “trying to break the rod” without giving people a chance to post in response to the bluff. So it felt like things escalated quickly.

My apologies if rhis came out wrong, I'm most definitely NOT mixing up player and the character.

I had a busy spell at work.and my twins had 18th birthday. I didn't have time to post properly as you can see.

My view of Tommi is exactly as you describe him, but this is first time that you directly threaten the party. Thus Lunn is stopping Tommi. You don't know what the safe distance is, what the consequences will be, or anything else. None of us do. And Tommi didn't give us time to move out.

From players perspective, I don't know what kind of groups you played with, but if stopping another player is unthinkable you're much more cooperative than any of.my groups that never forced cooperation as default.

There were discussions, occasionally fights, changes of characters if someone (character, not the player) doesn't fit...even an evil character or outright saboteur player (not character). That's why I didn't think NOT stopping Tommi just for some ideal of cooperation.

Just as I don't get to say how you play Tommi, you don't get to say if Lunn stops him or not.

Back to characters
Having Tommi have the rod is already a stretch, but ok, you came out of the well, you had extra move given that Lunn had to move with grappled Lionel.

If you said you rushed away and threatened to break it, lunn wouldn't chase Tommi. But here? With all of us AND potentially releasing the fiend? No.

I will gladly apologize if I came too strong in ooc, or if I offended you as a player, but IC, Lunn will not.

Now that part is explained: we have access to elven wizard. We can identify the rod. We can take measures to protect ourselves, starting by simple distance from the devil.

If we think (identify, knowledges...) it is good thing to break the rod, we can do it. No reason for rush actions.

I understand resolving pbp quicker and advancing the plot, but this may as well end up q TPK or us as slaves to the creature.

I don't really care one way or the other if Tommi gets a chance to break the rod or not, but I do think that we're stuck going around in circles on the subject, in a game that's struggled to move forward for quite some time. I've really only got one story arc left in me for this game (A Finale, but I think that it might be better called A Finally) - and I'd like to get us to it this decade...

Oh, boy.

I as a player would like to see what will happen even with the risk of killing everyone. Vairar is (overtly) cautious, as you may have noticed. In many ways opposite of Tommi - he would be against breaking the rod without careful consideration.

But he isn't in a situation to stop Tommi except by trying to cast Hold Person - which I as a player would be very reluctant of doing. But I would do it if I thought it necessary - I could see Vairar doing it to stop Tommi, but then I cross the line from 'guiding the careless youth' to commanding him (effectively attacking him). Which I would do only if I'm ready to leave the game since I would expect a backlash from such an action. And again, if I (a player) thought that needs to be done and I have arguments for that both IC and OOC, I'd do it. But it would not be impulsive.

I understand Kobold Stew about not interferring with another character - but I don't see the problem if it is not intentional sabotage, but in-game reason to do it.

For example: no one had anything against casting on Lionel or stopping him or grabbing him. What if someone (unknown to us) turned evil and at some point wanted to kill a commoner? Or free the demon? Or do anything/something you (as a character, important part!!!) find unacceptable.

Now, let's move away from the devil and discuss things. We can do it maybe without it following us and Morgan can identify it. He (Taran) expressed he wanted to analyze it, but there was no time. And jmucchiello, I'd like to see the effect...but Vairar wouldn't :)
