D&D (2024) Uncommon items - actually common?

It is just far too complicated, and I really don't care. This is the sort of thing that in my recollection has never come up in a game I've participated in any capacity.
This. I would figure out cuts and whatnot if it ever came up, but in 41 years of running the game, it has literally never been asked of me. There was a time period when I used that Dragon Magazine chart I mentioned upthread that dealt with size, quality and cut, but the players never seemed to care so I stopped using it.

Generally, I'm happy if the players can remember the name of the country their characters are in. :)

That thankfully has never been an issue with me. My players love to invest in their characters and the world.

Edit: or hasn't been an issue for a long time anyway.
 


I actually think the current wealth management in D&D is too detailed and more abstract one would be easier to use as well as more realistic. I don't mean completely abstract non-fungible wealth levels or stuff like that, but tracking various different sorts of coins and valuables seems rather pointless. I think it would be better if there was just "wealth points"* that could in the fiction be represented by various different things be it seashells, salt, precious metals, small gems, coins of various values from different countries etc, as well as any combination of those.

(* Might need a better name though.)
 

Surely you'll have an easy to use chart of these common economic factors that passes everyone's v-tude demands and takes into account the variable amount of trickle down magical side effects in everyone's individual campaign? Right?
Yeah, that's right. Are you trying to make a point here?

That would simpler and easier. I see no way it's more realistic, but I tend to be a pretty literal thinker.

It is more realistic in a sense that it is unrealistic that everyone in the world uses the same currency which is neatly decimal. With more abstract system we can assume that there is more realistic variety of money in the fiction without having to deal with the currency conversion and mathematics hell it would produce if we tried to track all these individual valuables.
