D&D (2024) Eye Tyrant. Who Died and Made You Gygax?? Design Your Own D&D 2024X3.

ability score value is for 3d6 not d20 or we would roll d20, but when they made the game, they realized that bell curve is better for ability distribution
Exactly.

And scores from a bell curve.

There is no neat way to form a bell curve between -1 and +4.

and all of this is also described by ability modifiers.

no need to have two sets of stats for the same thing.
ability scores currently would add too much if you would use them after d20 roll, so just ax them in current form and have ability scores go from -4 to +4 with average of zero(0)
Ability Score handles a lot of values better and simpler than Ability Modifiers.

Especially anything above an 8.

yes, there is,

4d3-8 for average
5d3D1-8 or 6d3D2-8 for adventurers, depending on your preferred power level

how exactly, except in the explanation; we have been doing it that way for 50 years?

That's not simple.

That's not simple.

D&D has to be simple enough for a 10 year old or a person bad at math or sales will suffer and WOTC will fire you.
4d6D1 or 5d3D1-8 is more or less the same, both is 1st grade elementary math.

edit: also, that is why rolling stats need to be 3rd optional rule.

1st: array

2nd: point buy

3rd: rolled stats

everyone will get +3,+3,+2,+1,+1,+0 for their character creation.

subtraction every single roll that needs to be done on the fly is bad.
sitting in your room and making 6 rolls for your character is not bad.
Substraction is bad. Humans don't like it.

Remember Rule number 1 in the Original Post.

Make the most money.

  • No more ability scores, just modifiers
  • Make HP officially "meat points" (and adjust the rest of the rules with that in mind)
  • Create "power levels" or "Tier system" to meet a campaign's theme (eg, lower hp, low magic, high magic, superheroes, gritty etc...)
  • Reduce Dex's monopoly on so many rules (eg initiative, AC, combat bonuses etc.)
  • Change Warlock to be more thematic, less "the Eldtritch Blast class"
  • REALLY clarify the "toolbox" nature of the game; how each campaign can have thematic limitations on species and class (eg you don't HAVE to include half Tabaxi, half vampire Ninja in literally every setting)

Substraction is bad. Humans don't like it.

option 3 is put there for a reason as option 3.
you have 2 opportunities to ignore it.

Have to play with the math but..

Remove to-hit rolls, and thus AC
Use ability scores, remove modifiers
Anyone can cast spells. Caster are just better.

So something like 1d20+weapon - armor.
And if the d20 is higher than their Str, then you push or other effects.
