Airwalkrr's 4e Game IC: Ch 1 Sedition

GM: To clarify, you had time for a short rest after your encounter with the tieflings, but since then you have NOT had time for a second short rest. Any encounter powers you have used since then are not available. You are clearly being pressed for time. If you were to take a short rest now, the Watch would surely be upon you and you would lose your opportunity to validate your presence here. You don't currently have enough evidence to justify your attack on the place so you are forced to chase after Darok to get it before the Watch gets to you first.

With the City Watch close on your heels, you have no choice but to press on in hopes that you can either force a confession out of Darok or find evidence of his complicity with sinister forces. You make your way through the secret passage, which leads you to the dry goods and munitions warehouse. When you arrive on the other side, you find yourself on a balcony that appears to serve as a sort of office. Along the edges of the balcony is a protective railing and off to one side is a double-wide wooden stair case leading down. A pair of dwarves clad in plate armor walk amid rows upon rows of various goods, keeping close watch on the goings on in the warehouse. Meanwhile you hear rhythmic intonations coming from the far corner of the warehouse where you glimpse the sight of candlelight illuminating a strange circle drawn upon the floor.

Unfortunately, the warehouse is relatively quiet at the moment as the main doors are closed and you find it practically impossible to conceal your arrival. The dwarves look up towards the balcony seeing your group spill out of the secret passage way and call out an alarm to a man who is standing near the center of the circle. Upon seeing you, the man cries out, "Don't just stand there, you fools! Kill them!"

"That's not very friendly." Lia said, then moved out in front of her friends, took aim at one of the plate-clad dwarves, and loosed a pair of arrows. It wasn't her best effort.[sblock=actions](I'm assuming you only have cover if you're directly behind the difficult terrain, and it can otherwise be shot over; if this is not the cae, Lia's actions will be different)
move:move to G5
minor: designate dwarf 2 as Lia's quarry
standard: Twin Strive vs. dwarf 2 (prime shot bonus to hit & bow expertise bonus to damage apply)[/sblock]

GM: Cover is going to apply one way or the other. Even though you are on an office balcony you don't have a completely clear shot at anyone. But you do have line of sight to all targets. If you are on the lower level however and more than one square of difficult terrain is between you and your target then the target has superior cover (-5 penalty to attacks). If you are shooting from the balcony, only standard cover applies (-2 penalty to attacks).
Lia's arrows fly wide of their targets, but they do manage to stir up the dwarves and hasten them to action. Meanwhile the man standing near the circle holds up his staff and intones strange words which begin to shake the balcony upon which you stand. The balcony shifts and quavers then slants downward as if attempting to cast you off. Your entire group is tossed off and knocked down to the floor, try as you might to grab the railing of the balcony (30 vs. Will on Lia, 30 vs. Will on Krawlinstar, 30 vs. Will on Erik, natural 20 vs. Will on Petron). You do manage to land on your feet, although barely (slide three squares to present positions on map; 18 damage each except for Petron who takes 27). The dwarf mercenaries move up to take advantage of the situation, one charging Lia while the other moves more cautiously to attack Petron, but both swing far off their targets (AC 10 vs. Lia and AC 8 vs. Petron).
GM: I don't think I'll ever see a luckier set of rolls. I got three 19s and a natural twenty on a the man's spell. Just so everyone knows, it was luck and not inherent challenge. Anyway, I think you guys can pull out of this if you buckle down.

Monster Knowledge
The dwarves are minion mercenaries with basic attacks.
The man is some sort of spellcaster, a controller, but that is all you can tell. He seems to be using a powerful magical staff.

Erik

"What the ...?" Eric coughs up blood. He quickly downs the readied potion in his hand, feeling it's magic closing his ruptured innards.
"Arcanum Telum!"
A silvery bolt of force slams into the dwarf next to Lia, leaving him unconscious on the ground.

[sblock=OOC]

move: Drink potion in hand
standard: Magic Missle on Minion. I hope you meant minion as a technical term. If not I have to change my description.
(non-lethal attack, BTW)

The dwarves fall to your spells, clearly they were no match for your prowess, although they were a brief impediment. Standing at the back end of the room, the spellcaster eyes you warily, but now his interest is piqued. "So you aren't completely incompetent after all," he chides, "I suppose you would have to be a bit clever to make it this far. But I don't intend to allow you to live much longer. Cherish the few moments of breath you have left."
GM: Petron and Lia are up.

Unable to carry a potion with her bow ready, Lia retrieves a potion of healing, drinks it, and then moves forward so she can get a better shot off next round.[sblock=actions]minor: retrieve potion of healing
minor (replacing standard): drink potion of healing
move: move to K9, taking cover
[/sblock]

Petron is demolished by the devastating attack. He grunts, under the weight of his wounds, but manages to sap a potion and drink it, "Cheers" he says, before sprinting forward. (To I 9)
