D&D 5E Want a better Rogue? Build a Wizard. Or why play a Rogue?

Yes, EXACTLY.

And part II is: who freakin' CARES? I mean, if somebody wants their games to reflect their favorite myths, stories, etc., that's fine. But citing literary precedent as some kind of determinant of how games should be designed? WTF?
yes
I think you are missing my point. Most of the clever, non magical heroes from myth and history fall under being often a good fit for the Rogue class...thematically.

Every class when played with cleverness and vim, is going to perform better than the exact same character played less optimally.

A person that wanted to play a learned, non magical librarian, that learned a forgotten secret and is now on the run from groups wanting to learn the secret....the Rogue class can model that.

Want to play John Wick...Rogue Class.

I meant both of you. And, "but he started it" is as eye-rolling as the rest of it. I think asking "what is the heart of the concept of the rogue" is interesting enough for everyone to discuss without that side match about quantity of myths consumed, right? You're both well read in mythology and folk lore. That's admirable and something I enjoy as well. I think it adds an interesting dimension to D&D as well. Why not leave it at that?

If you two can't stop arguing Mistwell is going to turn this thread around we will all go straight home. I want you two to put your seatbelts back on and stop slapping each other. Understand? :D

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming...

I usually serve my rogues with a one or two level side dish of fighter, although I also serve fighter with a light side of rogue as well. Two great tastes that taste great together. If I'm worried about gluten I sometimes substitute Ranger for Fighter but I don't like to do that too often because the leafy greens give me gas.

is no better than basketball fans who argue about who has played more street ball games.
