Which Essentials class do you like the most?

Since Essentials came out, I have played nothing but Essentials classes -- lots of reasons, but mostly I just like powerful at-will attacks powered up by feats. Knight (level 12 to 17): Lots of fun, definitely irritated the hell out of my DM with all of the slow and immobilize effects. Extra...

    Epic Destiny: Exalted Angel

Also, you are going to have to round up some red shoes.

Controller, Defender, Leader, Striker AND... a Fifth Role!?!?

I'm trying to do the latter right now, with a Human Thief MC Bard, who at level 2 will have 10 trained skills. With Disciple of Law, she is the perfect "advisor" for the entire party, and pretty damn good at a lot of stuff in her own right. Bardic Ritualist even gives her the ability to...

Would removing Superior Weapons open the game up more?

A lot of good comments here. Weapons are a very important part of both fluff and mechanic for many characters. As an example, I have just started a Thief who uses a Sling due to her background. Though I won't get to them for a while, I am glad that both the Sling Expertise and Deadeye Slinger...

    Feat: Cunning Stalker

With Cunning Stalker, you can get CA either by flanking or by attacking alone an enemy which has no one adjacent. But it still doesn't grant automatic CA -- there are any number of reasons why an ally might come up to attack the same enemy, and then by the time your turn comes around, it's...

    Whoa there, Sparky!

Is it just me, or does this lightning concept cry out for "theme" treatment?

    So, About the Dejada...?

If you mean "Speed Loader", that's crossbows only, and it doesn't address the question of how many hands it takes. I'm not sure how my DM will handle this, but actually I have a feeling that a dextrous person could easily load a sling one-handed.

    So, About the Dejada...?

    Huh. Well that just sucks...

    So, About the Dejada...?

Logically, yes, but I don't remember anything in the rules that says you do in terms of game mechanics.

    Two Weapon Rangers

I can't speak for bastard swords, but I was trying to wield a hand-axe in each hand of a Scout this morning, and it just wouldn't do it. I am going to guess that their latest update introduced a bug into the two-weapon logic.

    So, About the Dejada...?

I will be starting a Sling-using Thief in a new campaign that begins tomorrow. It's largely for Roleplaying reasons (it matches her background as a shepherd) and partly for the sake of not making this my fourth light-blade wielding Rogue/Thief. I'm starting off with RP-oriented feats (Disciple...

My Brawler Fighter and how fellow players complain

...and is probably one of those pretentious people who so love to natter on about how chess is a child's game and only Go is worth playing.

My Brawler Fighter and how fellow players complain

Dear Posters: You have been warned time and time again: you are not to agree with each other, no matter how tempting it may be to do so when you are all making sense. ENWorld will have no chance of surviving in this rough and tumble age of Lady Gaga and Michele Bachmann if we allow our...

My Brawler Fighter and how fellow players complain

Regarding the other player's motivation of being so concerned about the effort the DM put into the story and atmosphere, etc: D&D is a game, not "story hour". If a DM is only capable of telling a linear, pre-planned story without interruption... Well, more power to him or her, and his or her...

My Brawler Fighter and how fellow players complain

If I got that email from a fellow player, I would be tempted to go out in the middle of the night, find his or her car, and key the doors. And if I had any spraypaint, I might get carried away. Expect an update tomorrow morning, when I have had time to consider whether the above paragraph is...

There and Back Again, or trying to remember what was cool before Essentials came out

I wasn't trying to start a discussion about Essentials vs pre-Essentials -- I was just marvelling about how much fun it can be to go back and rediscover old favorites. But here I am thinking about going back to a pre- build, and I still haven't tried out the Warpriest, Scout or Hunter. So many...

There and Back Again, or trying to remember what was cool before Essentials came out

For various reasons, I have been very much caught up in the Essentials builds since they came out. I like the simplicity and flexibility of Essentials characters, and love the way that many of them (Thief, Scout, Slayer) emphasize movement. But I got thinking last night about one of my old...

Essentials classes - eaiser to play... at reduced tactical complexity?

Don't forget Scouts -- Aspect of the Charging Ram is amazing. At level 1, a Scout with Charging Ram can charge without risk of OAs, hit for +2 damage, knock prone, and follow up with Dual Weapon Attack (and CA, if you didn't already have it). Now add Boots of Adept Charging (only a level 2...

Characters that can only hit one defense

If your DM is really, really tolerant of "this isn't what we had in mind when we designed it" combinations, try to acquire a Master's Blade weapon. For a Slayer (or a Knight or a Scout) it can be quite helpful.

Characters that can only hit one defense

The ultimate accessory for a Slayer is a Tactical Warlord with Commander's Strike, Lend Might and Lend Strength. Set up for flanking, and let the fun begin when your buddy tells you to attack with +3 attack (+1 Lend Might, +2 flanking) and +8 damage (+6 Commander's Strike Int bonus, +2 Lend...
