2 weapon fighting

First Post
So it's been a little bit since I've posted. I've been busy teaching a few morons how to play a "tank" and such, but alas, we might... "might" be making progress. Anyway...

I got bored the other night and decided to make a 2 weapon ranger. We've never run across one, nor has anyone in the party ever done one (usually archery) so I figured, why not. I decided to go ranger, level 11, and on a 32 pt system. I'm still kind of rusty on the point system but after racial and level adjustments I came out to this:

Str - 16
Dex - 16
Con - 12
Int - 10
Wis - 10
Cha - 8

Upon taking the 2 weapon I get 2 weapon fighting, Imp. TWF, and GTWF as class feats... I took TWDef, Wea Foc (short sword), Wea Spec (sh. swo), and Greater Wea Spec (sh. swo). I'm giving myself 50k to work with for eq, so far I've got a Mithril Chain Shirt and 2 - +1 adamantite short swords (one frost, one shock) and guesstimated approx 21100 gold spent leaving 28900.

If anyone wants to tweak or redist the pts for a better way let me know, always up for new ideas...

However, my questions are
1. can he take the weap tree or are they blocked to fighters only? (i don't have books with me but I think I remember them having prereq of X fighter levels)

2. with the TWF tree done, he's allotted 5 attacks 11/6 base attack and 3 swings offhand. Are the 3 offhand swings done at the highest attack then with the - penalties (11 for first, 5 for 2nd, 1 for 3rd) or am I wrong here too? It's been awhile since I messed w/ TWF especially without my books...

Weapon Spec is Fighter only, as are Grt Wep Focus and Grt Wep Spec.

Also, your stats seem out for a 32 pt buy. It looks more like a 28 pt buy without adjustment than a 32 one for a Human. For an Elf that would be a 26 point buy:

Base Stat is 8.
To get to 16, you spend 10 points, 14 is 6, 12 is 4 and 10 is 2.
For Human: 10 (16) +10 (16) +4(12) +2(10) +2(10) +0(8) = 28
For Elf: 10(16) +6(14) +6(14) +2(10) +2(10) +0(8) = 26

I am not sure about your equipment value. 2x +2 weapons is 16k by themselves. I am not sure about the Adamantite cost. A Mithril Chain Shirt is 1.1k.

For a TWF Ranger, I would choose the following:
Str 16 (10)
Dex 16 (10)
Con 12 (4)
Int 10 (2)
Wis 14 (6)
Cha 8 (0)

Points=32
Then add +2 to Dex from your 2 stat increases.
Feats:
Level 1: Improved Initiative
Human: Weapon Focus Spikes
Level 3: Weapon Focus LSword
Level 6: Power Attack
Level 9: Cleave

Get a heavy shield. Get spiked armour. Wield a Longsword.

Have fun.

... wow, i just reread my post and your right, there was quite a bit of bad math stuff... maybe i should proofread a bit :P

Anyway, for the TWF rang you suggested, I understand the longsword... are you talking about using shield bash with the spikes?

No. Armour spikes can be used as an off-hand attack. According to the PHB or DMG, it is like kicking someone with a spiked boot or kneeing him in the groin with a spiked knee or elbow. Use THAT as your off-hand weapon wrt to TWF.

1. If you take the way of straight Ranger, you can't take Weapon Specialization, Greater Weapon Specialization, or Greater Weapon Focus.

2. Assuming you have Greater Two Weapon fighting and BAB of +11, and your off-hand weapon is a light one, you attack with your weapon in primary hand at +9/+4/-1. Then attack with your off-hand weapon at +9/+4/-1. You still suffer two-weapon fighting penalty.

As the main problem of Two-Weapon style is the amount of damages, buying magic weapons with additional damage dice is a good idea. If you can spend 50,000 gp, I recommend +1 Holy weapons instead. It depends on campaign. But in typical adventures, the majority of opponents are evil.

Or, you can buy +1/wounding weapons instead. Con damages are great.

Do you want to consider using double weapons? Your character is not a finesse fighter. So double weapons can be a viable option. And if you really want a lot of attack, you can make Flurry of Strikes by taking a level of Exotic Weapon Master (in CW)

Complete Adventurer also have some good options for Two-Weapon fighters. Oversized Two-Weapon Fighting feat allows you to use non-light weapons in your off-hand as if you are using a light weapon. And infamous Tempest prestige class is specially made for Two-Weapon fighters.

I like that oversized TWF... I used to make TWF fighters w/ double bastard swords, just with the extra penalty. what are prereq for oversized?

Also, does wounding stack per hit? or just per weapon? (i.e. if you hit 4 times with 1 weapon is it -4 con or -1 since they were all w/ same weapon - me and someone had a discussion about this once, don't think we ever decided)

Str of 13 and Two-Weapon Fighting feat.

It is constitution damage, not constitution penalty. So you don't need to care about stacking. If you hit an opponent 4 times with a wounding weapon, you inflicts 4 points of constitution damages (in addition to normal damages) in total.

Take a gander at Improved Buckler Defense from the Complete Warrior.

Makes TWDef an utter waste.

And there is another option. Buy +1 Animated Shield (or something better). Now you don't need a feat to get a shield bonus.
