2 weapon fighting

This is fairly off topic, but does deal with two weapon fighting and this seemed the best place to put it.

I have a PC with 22 strength, and is a lvl 10 paladin. He uses a +2/+2 double bladed orc axe, and has weapon focus on said weapon, and two weapon fighting and improved two weapon fighting.

I am fairly certain that I am doing the math wrong for his attacks, I have gotten +16/+16/+11/+6, but I think that it is wrong and this is the best place to find out how it should be.

Here ya go! First, figure out his normal, "one-handed" attack routine.

BAB: +10 / +5
Str: +6
WF: +1
Enhancement: +2

Total "One-Handed": +19 / +14

These are the attack bonuses he uses when only fighting with one end of his double weapon. Now, should he wish to use both ends, he is treated as using a one-handed and a light weapon in terms of his TWF penalties (-2 main, -2 off-hand). So, for a normal TWF attack:

Main Hand: +17 / +12
Off-Hand: +17

Now, however, he has the Improved Two Weapon Fighting feat, which gives him an additonal attack with his off-hand at -5. This results in:

Main Hand: +17 / +12
Off-Hand: +17 / +12

This is usually written as: +17 / +17 / +12 / +12

The trick is to figure out your "main hand" bonuses first, and thereafter keep your main hand and off-hand calcs separate.

Thank you, I have been trying to figure out how to do the math for a few days now and it has been agitating me greatly. The worst part was that my friends consider me the rule expert, and not knowing how TWF worked was rather embarrassing :) .

Welcome!

A good rule of thumb to keep in mind is that, if you're TWFing with identical weapons, your attack bonuses on each hand will be the same.

Happy slicing!

Haha. Either or. I kinda liked that pali too.. but pali's are too "goody goody" for me. I'm at least noot, usually chao.

Either way, I've been lazy today, should've made my char, i might do that when i get off the phone...

I always heard that one as, "I before E, except after C or when sounding like "A," as in neighboor and weigh."

My working rule of thumb is "i before e except when it isn't". I haven't found any exceptions to that so far, although admittedly it isn't a particularly -useful- rule...
