D&D (2024) 48 Subclasses: 4 per Class

I will say this seems like it will be fun to character build. But, for many players, this seems like it is going to become overwhelming quickly.

If you moved Accursed Specter into the general warlock chasse (and made it more generic), then if you kill a foe, you get a minion for a day (limit of 1 of course) related to your patron, then getting a fiend, aberration, fey, or undead seem like good subclasses (with room to expand to shadowy monstrosities down the line) and seems like the kind of bad thing that would be associated with a warlock (even if you did it for a good purpose).

Jeremy Crawford revealed in a recent video on playtest feedback that there will be 48 subclasses in the 1D&D PHB: 4 per class.

It's time to speculate.

ETA: This thread may get more traction if I began speculating so people could come tell me how I was wrong.

Did he confirm the 48 subclasses are evenly divided between subclasses?

I do not believe so, and the history of Wizards implies otherwise (though some people do wish for "school specialist" or somesuch as a blanket option), but it sure would be nice if there were 4 per class.

Good to know thanks. Honestly a school specialist subclass would make sure other classes don't get ripped off nor do you end up with only four schools getting a subclass. I think the Circle of the Land is a great basic template for it.

Might be a few other subclasses that work well like that, especially if Divine Soul gets an update.

Okay I think that all, but confirms the school subclasses will either get merged into one subclass with subchoices or maybe be a seperate class feature from subclass completely. Feat chain is possible as well I guess.
