[sblock=Growing Heat]Cataclysm dragons build larger auras until they explode; that causes the attack. R1 love em (killed most of Team Psion with one). [/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]
They are lots of fun. It's a nice surprise for all the PC's...and it works while dazed as it is a no action attack. I actually find them far more fun from a DM perspective then regular dragons as it creates some nice tension to dropthem before the clock stops...This one is not as bad as the one for Team Psion (that level differential was 5 or 6, this one is only 3 or 4) [/sblock]

only 3 or 4
Yes, nothing at all, really

IronSky, moving the huge scorpion on square still leaves it adjacent to J18. No problem there. Now to see if my luck with the rolls hold.

As the dragon bites into the drow, small lightning cloud appears over it's head, while deva shines for a moment like true angel. The glow settles over Kauldron and Papolstaanes, turning small part of every attack away.

Cyr moves from the steaming vent, careful not to step into dragons poison cloud.
"This one is full of surprises, don't you think, paladin?" he comments toward Kauldron and then raises his hand.

Small ball of light appears and as he closes his fist over it, three rays shoot out, the one toward the dragon visibly curving trying to follow sinuous movements of the beast, but misses by merest of fractions. The cloud over the dragon disappears with small thunderclap.

Only smaller scorpion feels the pain.

[sblock=Actions]
Immediate reaction: Preserver's Rebuke on dragon's attack (and Papo is shifted to N23 before he's hit by the vent) and Papo and Kauldron get +1 to all defenses vs bloodied enemies UNTIL THE END OF ENCOUNTER

Move: P19 (Athletics (1d20+1=17) - why didn't I roll this for an attack!?Standard: Hand of Radiance vs Ref (Dragon; Huge Scorpion; Large Scorpion); radiant damage (1d20+8+3=18, 1d20+8=10, 1d20+8=20, 1d4+6 =8) - miss the dragon by one (does anyone grant CA or another bonus?); miss huge scopion; hit smaller one.
[/sblock]

OOC: I have a flaming sphere in J18. If the Scorpion is slid away, it'll negate the 13 damage the flaming sphere will do to it at the start of its turn.

OOC: I'm not sliding it away. J18 is still adjacent to (in fact, on top of) the scorpion, just a different part of the scorpion.

*Kauldron dances through the fray that the large scorpion weaves. Deflecting and dodging everything the scorpion had to throw at him. He slips over to beside the scorpion just barely dodging out of the way of the dragon's effect.*

Phew. I think yee be right lad. That dragon has some nasty tricks under 'is sleeves.

*He clenches the still light cigar within his teeth as he spots the massive scorpion get slide back over to him. Grinning.*

Perfect. Thanks yee lass. I'll give yee a kiss later for the aid.

*He winks across to Kaeysari as he chuckles.*

Alright yee buggers it's time to fall. Feel the sting of me blade.

*Kauldron slides into a wider stance and twirls his blade back into an upright form. He lashes out at each scorpion in turn aiming for there less armored gapping maws. Before dancing back away from the pair.*

[sblock=ooc]Hard for Papolstaanas to help focus fire at the moment, as he's still confused and the damaging zone is blocking him.[/sblock]
"Eeeee!" Papolstaanas shrieks as Cyr's power pushes him safely away from the vent. "I'll get--wait--where'd everything--why's everyone moving around so--can't see through this cloud of--what is that thing?" The "thing" he is talking about seems to be the smaller of the two scorpions; as he concentrates on it, a tiny dry twig flies up, borne on an errant gust of wind, and adheres itself to the creature's carapace. The impact is apparently more powerful than it appears, because the creature recoils as if from a heavy blow.

[sblock=actions]Standard: concussive spike on large scorpion (that is to say, scorpion 1). Vs AC: 1d20+8=21 1d8+5=10. 10 force damage.

Minor: battlemind's demand to mark large scorpion (i.e. scorpion 1 again).

Move: to N25.

Save vs. confusion: 1d20=4. That's 4 in a row. Yay?[/sblock]

Persistent Harrier (immediate reaction): The first time during an encounter that P. is hit or missed with an attack, he can melee attack the triggering enemy, even if it is out of melee range (+8 vs AC, 1d8+5 damage). He teleports to a square adjacent to the enemy if he hits.

Blurred Step (special free action 1/turn): If an adjacent enemy marked by P. shifts, P. can shift 1 square in response.

Mind Spike (immediate reaction): If an adjacent enemy marked by P. deals damage to an ally with an attack that doesn’t include P., that enemy takes force and psychic damage equal to the amount its attack dealt to the ally.

Melee basic attack: +6 vs. AC, 1d8+3 damage.

Power Points: 3/4

Conditions: confused, resist all 3

Your flavour text says "small scorpion", but your action block says, "large scorpion". Which is it?

Sorry I couldn't get you an extra save. I think giving people more hp is more important right now.
[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Both are right. The ooc text says "large," which is meant in the absolute game terminology sense (a large creature being 2x2 squares). The flavor text says "smaller," and the 2x2 scorpion is indeed the smaller of the two scorpions. But, I'll make the ooc text clearer.[/sblock]

The adventurers continue their assault, dropping the remaining eladrin and leaving the arthropods in rough shape.

The scorpion's claws continue to wreak havoc, leaving Kauldron's head swimming.

The smaller scorpion can't find any chinks in the armor of the goblin, even its tail fails to do any damage.

The dragon's eyes flare at Phoenix's words and it flies out of the cloud, moves next to the spellcaster and Tarkus, the claws slashing outwards. One catches the cleric, sending him to the sand, while the other looks about to do the same to Phoenix when a burst of force sends the attack aside.

The fumes continue to spread from the dragon...

Damen hits & kills Eladrin, Phoenix hits dragon, misses scorpion, [MENTION=79945]JoeNotCharles[/MENTION] - just a note that you don't gain +2 for CA on ranged attacks for prone, plus non-adjacent ranged attacks suffer a -2 penalty, but you still hit. Kaeysari hits

Gray Zone: An enemy that starts its turn within the zone takes a -2 penalty to attack rolls until the end of its next turn.
