A Night at the Four Seasons (DM: renau1g, Judge:Ozymandias79)

OOC: Naw, r1 missed when I used a Lay on Hands. I re-went through the entire adventure to make sure. Sadly I'm only at 3 surges right now and 2 left if you boost me again.

OOC: Healer's mercy affect every bloodied ally in the burst unless they made an update about that. That would mean first healer's mercy would heal everyone bloodied.

Deva looks horrified as paladin kneels for him.
"No, no, Kauldron, leave such supplication for the gods. We all did our part in this battle and to select me as your sole saviour is unfair toward Tarkus who healed us, Damen and Phoenix who put out such mighty barrage, Keysari, Papolstaanes and you who held the scorpions in place. We all did our part.

Let's see about that portal, shall we?"

Cyr looks at the portal, trying to determine where it leads and whether it's exit can be changed to Transitive Islands

Around the neck of the eladrin dragonrider is an amulet in the shape of a cat's eye and wears a pair of sandals. He also has a trio of potions in a small sack at his hip.

Cyr cannot determine anything about the portal.

Amulet is +1 Ornament of Alertness.
Sandals are Sandals of Precise Stepping.

Looks like we are ALL bloodied - just barely in Phoenix's case. So, 5-min rest to recharge Healer's Mercy, and then:

Healer's Word on Damen, Kaeysari, Cyr, Phoenix, Papol, Tarkus (1d6+6=9, 1d6+6=9, 1d6+6=9, 1d6+6=10, 1d6+6=12, 1d6+6=7)

(Kauldron keeps the original roll of 10)

Er, no, Phoenix is not bloodied, even though it says so in renau1g's summary. 23x2 is 46, not 36. I'll just ignore the roll for Phoenix.

So:

Damen: 43/49 hp (down 6), 6/7 surges
Kaeysari: 37/46 hp (down 9), 3/10 surges
Kauldron: 29/47 hp (down 18), 4/12 surges (or 3/12 if DarkSteed is right)
Cyr Iannes:17/34 hp (down 17), 3/7 surges, bloodied
Phoenix: 23/36 hp (down 13), 5/8 surges
Papolstaanas: 23/45 hp (down 22), 9/13 surges
Tarkus the Crusader: 14/31 hp (down 17), 5/9 surges, bloodied

Then I'll use the two Healing Words on Kauldron (7 points) and Cyr (8 points), since they're the farthest from max hp except for me and Papol, who have more surges. Then everyone who's within 1 surge of full can just spend a surge.

That leaves us after one 5-minute rest with all my healing blown and:

Damen: 49/49 hp, 5/7 surges
Kaeysari: 46/46 hp, 2/10 surges
Kauldron: 47/47 hp, 3/12 surges (or 2/12 if Darksteed is right)
Cyr Iannes: 33/34 hp (down 1), 2/7 surges
Phoenix: 23/36 hp (down 13), 5/8 surges
Papolstaanas: 23/45 hp (down 22), 9/13 surges
Tarkus the Crusader: 14/31 hp (down 17), 5/9 surges, bloodied

If we are able to take another 5 min rest, I can recharge my healing and Healer's Mercy myself / Healing Word Phoenix and Papol: Healer's Mercy on Tarkus; Healing Word on Phoenix and Papol (1d6+6=7, 1d6+4=8, 1d6+4=8). That fully heals Phoenix, leaves Papol at 42/45 and leaves me at 28/31. I'll blow another surge since it's not likely I'll have the opportunity to use 4 in one combat, and those 3 hp could make a difference. I recommend Papol do the same since he's still got tons of surges compared to the rest of us.

Then another 5 min rest to recharge my powers. Total rest: 15 minutes. (And if we're interrupted at any point, renau1g can tell exactly what state we're at.)

Damen: 49/49 hp, 5/7 surges
Kaeysari: 46/46 hp, 2/10 surges
Kauldron: 47/47 hp, 3/12 surges (or 2/12 if Darksteed is right)
Cyr Iannes: 33/34 hp, 2/7 surges
Phoenix: 36/36 hp, 4/8 surges
Papolstaanas: 42/45 hp, 8/13 surges (or 45/45 hp, 7/13 surges if he spends one more)
Tarkus the Crusader: 31/31 hp, 3/9 surges

You may consider buying Comrades Succor in the future. It is essential ritual for a healer which allows the party to redistribute healing surges at the cost of one surge. In this case, if Papo would sacrifice 4 surges and damen 1 we could get Keysari, Tarkus and Kauldron to 4 surges, cyr to 3 (as he's least likely to need them)

Thanks for the healing.

OOC: Who's taking the magic items? I think Damen is most likely to gain the most use of the boots (+2 Acrobatics, Athletics, and Stealth), great for any rogue. Don't know who would be good to have the Amulet. Anyone need more Perception?

R1 does you go off of peoples wish lists? Or you a more random item kind of guy?

Also I had another question do you do XP at an Extended rest, at the end of an adventure, or any other specific time? Just curious, as Kauldron is well past level 5. He got it on time XP alone. Not trying to bug just curious how you run your ship is all.

Thanks for the help.

re: Magic Items - In this case I just picked a few items that may have fit the situation. Sometimes I go off of lists, sometimes random (but I would never give items that have no benefit to the party, i.e. an axe to a group that all wield heavy/light blades. You're free to distribute how you wish of course, in this case Damen can gain a lot from the sandals, but anyone can benefit from those bumps. The amulet is likely best for someone missing a neck slot item...

re: XP - I will only hand out at extended rests, or at the end of the adventure.

re: encounter difficulty - just curious if anyone felt it was too difficult. I tend to run slightly more challenging encounters than some other DM's here as I find the PC's a bit more optimized than my home game.
