Are the Warforged underpowered?

we envision the game will take us. Immunity to disease isn't really an issue unless 1) you're traveling through an area infested with the plague, 2) you fight a ton of mummies, or 3) your character is after cheap hoochie in every tavern you stop. Immunity to poison is similarly an infrequently used ability.

It does completely depend on the game being run as far as the immunities go. In my game, about half the party is suffering from disease currently.

I think the warforged generally fare well, being a bit behind dwarves but ahead of the other PHB races. However, their healing "resistance" is a major pain in the neck for most parties.

Just like other races (and I still hate referring to these guys as a race) the Warforged has specific strengths and weaknesses. The difference is that the strengths are stronger and the weaknesses are weaker. The core races all exist within a certain spectrum and the Warforged goes beyond that spectrum at both ends. I certainly don't find them under-powered, unless the player is seeking to have a character that can do and be the best under any and all circumstances. As with all races you take the bad with the good. It's just that with regards to the Warforged both are more pronounced.

Wow. My players would love you. They hate poisoness critters with an absolute passion. I loved the time they killed a bunch of baby giant spiders. The silly things came out of the tree they were camped under.

They never moved camp though and when mommy came home boy was she ticked. They dragged two unconcious charaters away from that fight. :]

I tend to agree that the warforged aren't under powered though. They stack up well against other charaters, especially in the mournlands where they can heal and the others can't. In combat our war forged is only over shadowed by the party rogue (me  ). But his staying power is better than mine any day of the week.

Tells me that the character is pretty well balanced against the other races.

Nah. For fun take a level of sorc. Now you heal every day, and perhaps you can do one other thing ... (Enlarge?) Buy a few first level pearls of power for extra spells per day. Ex Cell Ent.

Can warforged take levels of Monk? Sure, that would remove certain flavor... and dual grant certain immunities. But still. And how would the immunity affect the monk's healing ability, if at all?

As in all things, it depends on the campaign. I think that the core rules assume that the game is going to include poison, disease, and other Fort-save-necessitating things like that on a regular basis (once per session, or at least one encounter featuring it heavily per adventure module?). If you're running a game in which poisonous monsters don't pop up, then yeah, the warforged are underpowered.

On the other hand, a warforged can walk through a plague-struck town without batting one clockwork eyelash.

As for their class limitations... I'd love to try a warforged rogue. You'd never suspect that the big clanky guy who keeps bumping rudely into people was actually picking their pockets...

We have two Ebberron games in our group right now. In both, the same player plays a warforged. One is a veritable wall, he hasn't dropped yet, and is just under the shifter ranger in damage dealing. The other is a rogue, and it works well, especially with feats like Mithral Fluidity. His immunities come into play, esp. against poison, as rogues tend to find those little needles in all kinds of places. ;)

In both games, the Warforged is neither overpowered nor underpowered so far. The player has taken this race to heart, and really adds flavor to each. They are very distinct from each other. We are enjoying them very much.

No sleep? Theres the watchman. THats the biggest one.
No breathing? Here's your swim buddy.
No eating means no starvation problems and that much more food for the living members of the party.

Okay, the servants of that god then.

Hey, some people like lots of arms. Well, they probably won't have hands attached to them...
