best magic property for execution axe [heroic tier]

hiho!

yeah, so what do you think would be the best magic enchantment for a 2H execution axe in heroic tier for a dragonborn great weapon fighter? One of my players plays one currently, and he is wielding a +2 vicious greataxe atm. the background of her character is that the dragonborn used to be an executiner, so she's got to have an execution axe that really let's her shine.^^
oh, my player's will turn level 8 today if they survive.^^

thanks,

As big an enhancement bonus as you can afford. The brutal effect applies to the extra d6s from crits, and it's always good to get as much attack bonus as you can get.

i thought the brutal effect only applies to the damage directly from the weapon, so whenever there is something like 1[W] and not to extra crit damage?

It could be argued that the rules []do[/i] call it out.

From Brutal:
When rolling the weapon’s damage, reroll any die that displays a value equal to or lower than the brutal value given for the weapon.
From PHB(276, "Damage Rolls")
Roll the damage indicated in the power description. If you’re using a weapon for the attack, the damage is some multiple of your weapon damage dice.

Though I cannot say it would be game-breaking if Blargny is correct, I prefer a system that is DM-favored (do the rules say that you can?) over player-favored (do the rules say that you can't?).

From the PHB, Berserker is a good property, it can increase the chance of hitting.

From the AV there are a few more options. Rending is Axe specific, and gives a free basic attack with the weapon on a critical.

Stout doesn't give you a roll for the critical damage, it gives your con modifier times the enhancement bonus [so good for higher con].

Using this logic, extra damage from a critical hit comes from one of two sources:

Either it is a high-crit weapon, or a magical weapon with a bonus to damage from criticals (most of them.)

In the first case, it's a mundane property of the weapon and therefore, damage comes from the weapon, and therefore it is weapon's damage, and in the second case, it's a magical property of the weapon, and therefore, damage comes from the weapon, and therefore it is weapon's damage.

In other words, extra critical damage IS weapon damage because it comes from properties of the weapon itself, not from external sources (read: powers)
