Of course, the rules in the Epic Level Handbook aren't necessarily written to be used with 3.5 rules.

Or, in other words, no. Tripping doesn't fit the definition of 'drop an opponent' for the purposes of Cleave. It's been addressed many times, and that's always the answer given.

What if you combined that with the knockdown feat from Sword and Fist that lets you trip opponents you deal more than 10 points of damage to?

If you've just dealt 10 points of damage to a snail then I suspect being tripped would be the least of its worries.

Unless of course you had the misfortune to pick the epic level assasin awakened snail.. (note this type of snail not recommended for the 'bucket o snails')
