Channel Divinity: Corellon

First Post
Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Official Home Page - Article (Corellon's Devoted)

The article has tons of background material on Corellon, including 4e spins on classic tales involving him (Lolth's fall, the creation of elves and the maiming of Gruumsh). It is mechanics-light, presenting a few new backgrounds (with sample quests) and a new paragon path. A sidebar give elf and eladrin clerics of Corellon more duties than most and another sidebar list character options (like PPs and feats) that are helpful in fleshing out a Corellon devotee.

Very crunch light, in fact, but a lot of different myths, and even variations of the same myth. I read through it quickly but with great interest. More Channel Divinity articles need to be like this and your Sehanine article months back.

A companion Class Acts offering good Corellon-based options for the warpriest would be cool too.

As written, the PP cannot be taken by anyone as it requires you to be both an Elf and an Eladrin at the same time. Whoops and such. Easily corrected for the compiled version however. Plus having a +4/+6 attack bonus makes it quite hard to use (as it will lack expertise and other bonuses that normally boost accuracy of powers). +6/+9 really should become the standard.

Edit: Wait a moment, this is another Robert article. Is this like, his month for Dragon/Dungeon or something?

Only had time to skim it before having to go to work, but it seemed pretty good. Backstory and such is always really nice. I didn't notice the Elf and Eladrin, but that's probably because I assumed it was Elf or Eladrin and so saw what I expected. :p

As for the +4/+6 I didn't look closely enough at the powers, do they have the implement keyword? If not I understand the problem as you would certainly be a bit behind the standard curve at that point. Still seemed as though it could be interesting (at least from a roleplay perspective). Perhaps not the most powerful option around but good for players who really want to get into the concept of a devotee of Corellon. Plus at Paragon and above the bonuses against demons will surely come in handy in almost any campaign.

Overall, a decent article, though I would have liked more actual crunch. The magazines really need to find a balance, rather than constantly swaying between extremes.

Retelling the old lore doesn't offer much new, but I think is valuable to newer players less familiar with classic content that older players take for granted.

I am underwhelmed by the backgrounds. Even though I like the idea of offering character specific side-quests, most of those backgrounds are so vague, or already portrayed better elsewhere. Seriously, backgrounds should be about inspiring players to try out an interesting character idea they never thought of - not suggesting that maybe they can be an artist, or a guy who knows stuff about the outdoors?

I think most people can come up with that much on their own.
