D&D (2024) Collage of Dance Reveal

Ginny D has a fun Video about the upcoming Collage of Dance Bard Subclass:

Good Supporter with much movement (including Allies). I'm just not sure if the free Unarmed Attack on Bardic Inspiration will really be that usefull .. I don't see anything that supports playing the subclass for melee (no extra attack, just ok ac (no Armor=Dex+Cha), no damage bonus except the free Unarmed Attack). But I guess I would have to see it in play to get it.

Here are my notes for anyone who can't/doesnt want to watch the video
  • No real talk about the base class mechanics (what is spell casting going to look like?). I assume WotC want that for themselves.

  • Dance bard discusions starts at about the 8 minute mark.

  • 3rd lvel still gets unarmourd defence and psuedo-martial arts (better than barbarian unarmored defence)
  • 6th level has a reaction movement ability and a way to boost initiatives via spending inspiration
  • 14th level now has super evaion (You and an ally within 5ft get evasion)
I had forgotten how large the gap between bard sublcass features were. Yet another victim of non-standardized subclass levels...

Changes from the Playtest Version

Dazzling Footwork adds Dance Virtuoso (ribbon: advantage on Performance checks that involve dance)

Inspiring Movement moves from 3rd to 6th
Leading Evasion moves from 6th to 14th
Irresistible Dance (a free casting of the spell) is gone.

The original dance bard was a little overstuffed to at early levels, so it's not much of a loss to lose Otto's Irresistible Dance 1/day and move everything up a level. It will reall depend on the strength of the actual bard class, though.

I'm absolutely ecstatic it made it through unscathed. I've wanted this sort of class for years and I'm so happy it's a PHB option.

Sounds great balance wise. Evasion for the entire party seems powerful enough to be a level 14 ability.

The large gap is still a bit annoying but expected.
I hope that magical secrets is still in place at level 10. That was always some kind of very flexible subclass ability in my view. You could always take two spells that supported your subclass well.

I am very curious how the final bard looks. The Class changed drasticly in the UA, mainly because of the universal spellists (arcane, divine, etc instead of class based) and the bard became a master caster (learned from all Spelllists). But then they reversed to class lists but we saw now bard Test afterwards.

Finally you'll be able to play renowed hero Kevin Bacon.

Glad they listened to feedback about how insulting super evasion on 6th level was to anyone playing the Monk. At least now the subclass doesn't feel like a giant, purposeful middle finger towards Monk players.

My first banned class of 2024 D&D.
