Not a strawman. I think that word does not mean what you think it means.

It's generally my policy to just leave an internet debate when someone replies to my post with "strawman" rather than bothering to write an actual response. I mean, if someone is going to invoke a logial fallacy, you need to at least justify why. It's not a "win debate" card.
Whenever I break that rule and continue to engage, I usually end up regretting it.

I don't get the "I will only pay for content once" argument, when I have literally paid for the same movie four or five times, getting the same content on VHS, a couple times of DVD, and then Blu-Ray...

If you don't want to pay Curse for their time and work, then that's totally cool. But you've also waived the right to complain about not having a digital copy or character builder. If you really, really want digital tools or PDFs and absolutely will not pay for them, then the only other option is to make them yourself.
Curse is a business, not a charity, and has no obligation to give content away for free. If nobody wants to actually pay for the content then Curse will close that department down and we won't likely see digital tools again for 5e.

What erks me is that I wanted to buy the PDF from the start and bought the books as a second choice, now that PDFs are available I do feel that I am double paying. I will still likely buy them but I am not endeared to the company that there is no discount however.

To clarify, PDFs still aren't available. DnD Beyond doesn't provide pdfs, but a digital tool set and compendium.

Why would what ever Curse does or does not do effect my right to complain?

Is that one of the conditions of not buying their products?

Yes, you have to pay for a service and a product in order to use it.

Here's a thought: if the site has no value to you, why do you complain about it so much?

Was hoping the product would be sold at a reasonable price (which would make it valuable to me) but instead they are trying to milk me twice for the same content.

You see I get that at this point in the ball game it's not going to change. DND Beyond has no way of knowing what books I own to give me a previously purchased content discount even if they wanted to. Going forward that could change though. But that isn't really the main point. The main point is that we should have never reached this place to begin with.

While I am generally opposed to paying twice for the same content I can certainly see ignoring that principle if the convenience to money ratio is good enough for me personally. That said, I shouldn't even have to think about doing such a thing in the first place.

Or buy the options they want a la carte for a few dollars.

Or for absolutely free if they (like my players) have a DM (like me) who has purchased a lot of items and are sharing their content via the subscription tier.

Interesting. So for all the character generation options, how much would that cost to purchase them a la carte?

The subscription sharing thing sounds like a solid benefit. Any other benefits associated with DND Beyond? How much do those benefits cost?
