Since I started playing we have only had one new person join the group, a mere week or two after I got started. I tended to pick on her, but given that we have been married now for going on 4 years I suspect it was just that "we are flirting but dont realize we like each other" kind of thing.

But should it ever come up: an emphatic no. Thats the kind of thing that I have personally never been able to stand and given how I would respond to it (and the likely unfortunate consequences thereof) I would never actually "haze" someone in any circumstances nor tolerate it from others.

Our DM has formed an investigative committee to look into complaints that character hazing may have led to the death of one of our new PCs. "Saving throws may have been extensively modified in a negative manner following the abuse of inappropriate skill rolls," the initial report says. Also, "Dragons may have been taunted inappropriately."

Never seen hazing really. When I was running a large V:tM game, one of the thing that all new charaters would do is hunt. After they'd make their character, i'd basically say "It's Saturday night, nobody you know is avialable, your herd is busy, and you're hungry. What do you do?" Very rarely did things go off without problems. Very often things would go pear shaped, simply because the player never put any thought into it, to the amusement of the other players who would sit in and listen. Once that was over, I'd allow them to modify their character into something that worked better and we'd get one with the game.

How would you haze a new entrant?
The other players' characters kill the newcomer's PC. Then when he complains everyone says, hopefully in unison, "I was just roleplaying my character!"

It's best if one of them's a paladin.
