Draw Steel general thread

I just bought Draw Steel and thought it would be useful to have a thread specifically on it rather than mixed in with some other topics.

I picked it up after watching Matt Coleville’s video on the different classes, which made them all sound pretty amazing…

I’m only about a third of the way through the Heroes book, but ‘epic’ doesn’t seem to do the characters justice! An Elementalist of the Void can open portals at will from 2nd level. And at 3rd level they can open a portal to anywhere they have previously been after a Respite (the long rest equivalent).

I have to say it all sounds very exciting to play so far. The format the the characters reminds me strongly of D&D 4e and it is similarly difficult to parse on first reading, but i am sure it will get easier with practice. So much still to read, I don’t know what a surge does yet but loads of abilities seem to generate them!

Yeah, getting the framework that a 1st level; Draw Steel characters are possibly closer to a 5th level character in D&D.

I’d recommend strongly The Delian Tomb. $10 for a full started set experience, including such that the start of the adventure literally has the Director narrate like a video game tutorial the basic mechanics to the players at the table. Then through a four encounter dungeon the 1st level character sheets abilities are unlocked, encounter by encounter so that by the end the whole 1st level characters is unlocked.

Plus The Delian Tomb includes a 77 page starter rule packet which you could say are the full mechanics all in one book.

The group was so smitten they decided to pause our 5E game and continue The Delian Tomb’s sandbox. We just had their first downtime respite and everyone was stoked to pick projects to get going. The most enjoyment in downtime they’ve ever had.
