Enterprise 01-21-04

I liked the last few minutes the best ...

the rest was just "hah, stoopid pink skin ... we have better weapons, better ships, and ... and antanae!"

okay, I guess there ship was a warship ... just seems the Federation is screwed three ways to thursday all the time.

maybe they'll actually write in some Xindi paranoi about the Andorians ... that would be kinda cool, even give a real reason for a real alliance.

I thought this was a really well done episode. However, I missed the first 15 minutes...how did the Andorians get to them in the first place?

They were tracking enterprise- and thier ship is much faster. Remember that Warp is a logrithmic scale- Warp 6 is 10 times faster than warp 5. and Warp 1 is a "measly" speed of light.

obNitpick: I used to be a serious Trek nut, so I still remember this kind of junk, but if you extrapolate from the table in the ST:TNG Technical Manual, Warp n seems to be about n^3.3 * c , as long as n <= 9; then the function becomes asymtopic as n->10.

But isn't that the scale developed post Original Series, but pre-Next Gen? Enterprise would still be on the original scale, hence one hears Scotty talk about warp factors of ten and higher in the old series. I believe that scale does increase by factors of ten.

Pre TNG Warp Scale.
Warp Factor raised to the third power = multiple of the speed of light the ship is travelling at.

Warp 1 = 1x1x1 = Speed of Light
Warp 5 = 5x5x5 = 125xLightspeed

Post TNG scale.

Warp 1 = 1x1x1x1x1 = Speed of Light
Warp 5 = 5x5x5x5x5 = 3125xLightspeed

At least that's how I read it back when I read tech manuals and crap back in the late 80's.

All this makes me question the scale of the Federation and it's position in relation to the Klingon Empire. The Enterprise in the new show took like 4 days to travel from Earth to the Klingon Homeworld. The Enterprise D would have been there in .0086 seconds or so instead of having to make longer trips like they would show in TNG. I don't think the creators of Enterprise take past continuity into account very much.

So far so good...everytime the Andorians have appeared on the show, the episode has been decent to great.

I'm curious though - if this episode introduced the prototype and test, what was sent to Earth at the end of last season? A pre-test? Bad idea to alert your enemy that you are coming.

Although I haven't been too warm on the whole Xindi-quest plot this season, episodes like this one are still well received.

Enterprise - "Proving Ground"

Although former enemies, the Andorian Imperial Guard helps the Enterprise crew steal the Xindi's superweapon.

Well, at least we know that we'll see Shran in this one... :)

Yup, IOW a good episode, and it was. I liked it.

I get the impression that the first weapon failed, so they built a stronger one. This is the prototyp of that stronger weapon.

And yes, so far all the Andorian episodes have been great. Why can't the producers learn something from that?

Don't give them any ideas, or the next series will be Star Trek: Andorian Adventures.
